Wyatt Langford’s Walkoff Single Lifts Rangers Past Pirates

Sometimes, a little bit of offense is just enough and that sentiment rang true for the Rangers on Wednesday afternoon.

Texas took down the Pirates by a score of 1-0 thanks to a Wyatt Langford walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning.

“There’s something about guys who have a nose for a big RBI and I think he does have that knack of rising to the occasion,” Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said about Wyatt Langford after the game.

Langford’s knock is his second career walk-off hit (also 7/22 vs CWS), with that hit he becomes the first Rangers rookie with multiple walk-off plate appearances since Adolis Garica (2) in 2021.

For the Rangers, it’s their first series win since way back on July 25th when they swept the Chicago White Sox in a four-game set at Globe Life Field. Texas snaps a string of seven consecutive series losses.

“Feels good, walkoff wins are fun,” Rangers starter Andrew Heaney said after the game. “Win a series, I feel like we haven’t done that in a while so it’s good”.

Heaney played a big part in the Rangers series clinching effort as he threw five shutout innings while striking out eight in one of his better starts this season.

The 22 swing and miss strikes Heaney recorded were the second-highest total by a Rangers pitcher this season(23 Nathan Eovaldi 4/3 at TB).

“Good stuff, good location, poise as he usually has with men on base,” Bruce Bochy said when asked about what he saw from Andrew Heaney today.

A no decision from Heaney today keeps his record at 4-13 but that doesn’t quite tell the whole story

“Another good job by him, the record is not indicative of how he’s been throwing the ball, we all know that”.

The Rangers bullpen was equally as good as Jose Leclerc, Andrew Chafin, David Robertson, and Kirby Yates combined to throw four scoreless innings to hold the game scoreless for Texas to win it in the ninth.

“It’s obvious the pitching, what a job they all did.

“We got in some jams there but the pitchers made pitches when they had to” Bochy finished.
