Wyatt Johnston Becomes Hat Trick Hero In Stars OT Win Over Knights
Over the last few years, the Dallas Stars and Las Vegas Golden Knights have battled in some epic matchups.
Tuesday night, we added one more thrilling contest to the list as the two familiar foes went back and forth in a contest that would eventually lead to overtime.
When things were all said and done, it was the Stars who came out on top by a score of 4-3 thanks to a Wyatt Johnston overtime winner.
Johnston included goals in the first and third periods to go along with his OT winner and give him the second hat trick of his NHL career.
“It’s huge. It always seems like the games with these guys are kind of whoever’s up, whoever scores first ends up winning,” Johnston said. “So, it’s great to get that comeback win.”
Just seconds before Johnston’s overtime winner, Jake Oettinger made the final of his 25 saves on a breakaway to keep the game alive.
Early on in the game, it looked like Vegas was going to run the Stars out of the building after they dominated the opening minutes which eventually led to a Jack Eichel goal at 1:54.
A few minutes later, Mavrik Bourque tied the game at one at 3:41 as he sniped one home from the low slot.
Vegas added the next two goals late in the first and early in the second to make it 3-1 in their favor.
However, it was Wyatt Johnston who took over adding the next two for Dallas to tie things up and eventually win it later on.
A scary moment for the Stars occurred in the third period when Vegas captain Mark Stone appeared to dive at Miro Heiskanen’s knee.
Heiskanen left the game and was unable to put any weight on his knee. After the game Stars coach Peter DeBoer said he talked to the Dallas D man but will have to wait on testing to come back before providing an update.
“I just talked to him, we’ll see,” DeBoer said. “I’ve coached Mark Stone. He’s not a dirty player. He’s not trying to hurt anybody. … Just pray that we’ll get some pictures, and we’ll see.”
