San Diego fans welcomed their favorite son, Rey Mysterio, last night on WWE Smackdown.

Mysterio talked about winning the 2006 Royal Rumble in a wire-to-wire performance. Nineteen years later, he will enter the Rumble again.

Kevin Owens came out to say that he would beat Cody Rhodes at the Rumble for the WWE title, so Rey Jr. could challenge him for the belt at WrestleMania 41.

Owens later defeated Mysterio with a pop-up powerbomb.

Cody and Owens will have a contract signing next week on Saturday Night’s Main Event. Shawn Michaels will be the moderator.

BAYLEY’S CHALLENGE

Bayley, another California favorite, talked about winning the 2024 Royal Rumble and becoming WWE women’s champion at WrestleMania 40.

She challenged Tiffany Stratton in the main event, but Tiffy hit the Prettiest Moonsault Ever to retain the title. Roxanne Perez was in the crowd after her brawl with Bayley on Tuesday’s episode of NXT.

BAD BLOODLINE

Jimmy Uso defeated Carmelo Hayes when Bloodline 2.0 interfered. Solo Sikoa walked away, but Jacob Fatu grabbed the mic and said he was just getting started.

Braun Strowman confronted Fatu, and that match is set for Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Motor City Machine Guns defeated Los Garza. Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley earned a chance to regain the WWE tag team title from #DIY.

Piper Niven beat B-Fab, and a post-match brawl included Chelsea Green and Michin.

One more thing: Charlotte Flair appeared in a hype video, so she could be returning just in time for the Royal Rumble.
