WWE King and Queen of the Ring Update

WWE launched its King and Queen of the Ring tournaments in a tight three-week time frame between Backlash France and the royal PPV set for Saudi Arabia on May 25. With Raw and Smackdown brackets for the men and women, some of the matches took place at live events with no TV cameras rolling.

Let’s take a look at who is still in contention for the crown.

Raw women

Shayna Baszler defeated Maxxine Dupri over the weekend, but she lost to Iyo Sky on Monday Night Raw. “The Genius of the Sky” used a moonsault to defeat Baszler, who was a strong contender to win the crown.

Sky will move on to the next round to face Lyra Valkyria, who is off to a great start since being promoted from NXT. Valkyria defeated Zoey Stark on Raw.

Raw men

Kofi Kingston won a non-televised match over Rey Misterio, which would have been a treat for all fans to see. Unfortunately for Kofi, he ran into the buzzsaw of Gunther on Monday night. Gunther beat Kofi with the Boston crab to advance in the tournament.

Fans were salivating over a potential Gunther vs. Ilya Dragunov match, because Ilya was the last man to beat Gunther before he began his record-shattering Intercontentinal title reign. However, Jey Uso put that dream match on hold by knocking Dragunov out of the tournament.

So Gunther will face Jey Uso next week on Raw, with the winner advancing to face the Smackdown representative on the pay-per-view.

Smackdown men and women

Carmelo Hayes will face a tough test against Randy Orton this Friday night on Smackdown. The other men’s tournament bout will pit LA Knight against Tama Tonga.

On the women’s side, Nia Jax will try to become the first to hang an “L” on Jade Cargill. Jade’s tag team championship partner, Bianca Belair, will take on Tiffany Stratton.

PPV in Saudi Arabia

The Raw and Smackdown tournament winners will meet in the finals of the King and Queen of the Ring tournaments in Saudi Arabia on May 25. This will be a loaded show, with three title matches already signed.

US champion Logan Paul will try to upgrade when he challenges WWE champion Cody Rhodes. Becky Lynch will defend the World women’s title against archrival Liv Morgan. Sami Zayn will defend the Intercontinental championship in a Triple Threat match against Bronson Reed and Chad Gable.
