WWE Bash in Berlin Benefits Babyfaces

If you like watching the good guys win, WWE Bash in Berlin was the show for you.

I wrote the same thing about SummerSlam 91 in my WWF history book, King of New York.

On that show, almost all of the babyfaces won, and Randy Savage and Elizabeth got married at the end of the show.

In the Berlin main event, Gunther retained the World title with a win over Randy Orton.

Now wait a minute – isn’t Gunther a heel?

Not in Berlin. The fans treated the champ from Vienna, Austria, as a conquering hero, even though Orton is one of the most popular wrestlers in WWE.

Orton’s quest to win a 15th World title fell short, as Gunther blocked the RKO and won with the sleeper hold.

NEW CHAMPIONS

The super-team of Jade Cargill & Bianca Belair recaptured the WWE women’s tag team title from Isla Dawn & Alba Fyre.

Cody Rhodes opened the show by beating Kevin Owens to retain the WWE championship. Owens may need to make some decisions about his career, because he hesitated to capitalize on Rhodes’ knee injury and ultimately lost.

Damien Priest & Rhea Ripley had a great time beating up Liv Morgan & Dominick Mysterio. The Terror Twins overcame the interference of former Judgment Day teammates Finn Balor and JD McDonagh.

UNCLE PEPSI PREVAILS

CM Punk avenged his SummerSlam loss to Drew McIntyre by defeating him in a strap match.

Punk dragged Drew to all four corners of the ring to win, and he also regained possession of the friendship bracelet bearing the names of his wife and dog.

On the post-game show, Punk said he wanted to go after Gunther’s World title.
