WWE, AEW Stars Compete at Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport XII
What would you call a mashup of pro wrestling and MMA, including wrestlers from all of the major companies?
It’s Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport, and the 12th edition of the event took place last night in Jersey City, N.J.
Barnett, a former UFC heavyweight champion, presents the event a few times a year along with Game Changer Wrestling.
Bloodsport matches can only be won by submission or knockout.
One more thing: no ropes around the ring!
YOU’RE THE REAL MVP
Wrestling fans know MVP as a former WWE US champion who is now managing the Hurt Syndicate in AEW.
Well, the 51-year-old MVP is also a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, which is why he faced the 47-year-old Barnett in the main event.
Barnett defeated MVP with a rear naked choke.
Marina Shafir also represented AEW, with Jon Moxley supporting her in the crowd. Remember, she was one of the “Four Horsewomen of MMA” with Ronda Rousey.
Shafir defeated Jody Threat with the Mother’s Milk sleeper to improve to 6-0 in Bloodsport.
WWE JOINS THE PARTY
WWE sent Karmen Petrovic, Charlie Dempsey, and Myles Borne from the NXT brand to compete at Bloodsport.
Borne lost by submission to Royce Isaacs, while Dempsey used a Fujiwara armbar to beat “Hot Sauce” Tracey Williams.
Petrovic defeated Sumie Sakai by TKO after a spinning kick.
Masha Slamovich put her TNA Knockouts title on the line and beat Lei Ying Lee, who used to compete in WWE as Xia Li.
