Wrestling Television Landscape Shifts in Favor of Cord Cutters
Wrestling ratings have been down over the last few years, but so are the ratings for most other TV shows.
Starting on Jan. 1, both major companies are reacting to this reality by moving their top shows to streaming services.
ALL ELITE WRESTLING
AEW Dynamite’s “Fight for the Fallen” episode will air on TBS like normal on Wednesday, However, it will also stream live on Max.
Similarly, AEW Collision will air every Saturday night on TNT, but it will stream live on Max as well.
The No. 3 show, Rampage, just went off the air. A rumored new show called Shockwave has not found a home yet.
Ring Of Honor still airs on the Honor Club subscription channel, along with the pay-per-views.
RAW IS NETFLIX
WWE is making an even bigger switch by taking Monday Night Raw off cable TV altogether and moving it exclusively to Netflix.
The archive of 32 years of Raw episodes will move from Peacock to Netflix.
The archive of WWE, WCW and ECW pay-per-views will stick around on Peacock for another year.
Smackdown will stay on the USA Network. Raw and Smackdown will be three hours long every week.
WWE is loading up the first Netflix episode with the following blockbuster matches on Jan. 6:
- Roman Reigns vs. Solo Sikoa for the Ula Falaa necklace and the undisputed Tribal Chief title
- CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins in a grudge match
- Liv Morgan vs. Rhea Ripley in a Last Woman Standing match for Morgan’s World women’s title
NXT will continue to air on The CW. If you watched the NXT Level Up show on Peacock, I’m sorry to inform you that it has been canceled.
