Wings Satou Sabally Completes Historic Olympics, Set For WNBA Season Debut

Much to the delight of Dallas Wings fans across the metroplex, Satou Sabally was finally back on a basketball court.

For the first time in 2024, Sabally took the floor for Team Germany who qualified for their first-ever Olympic games.

Germany would go on to win two of their three group stage games before falling in the quarterfinal against the eventual finalist home nation of France.

Sabally led her team with 18.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. This comes as a good sign for Wings fans as Dallas desperately needs a spark to get themselves back into the playoff race.

Following the tournament, FIBA named Sabally to the all-tournament second team, where she became the first German player to be selected for an all-tournament team at the Olympics.

After a successful Olympic run, Sabally has already returned to Dallas and is ready to make an impact for the Wings.

“She (Sabally) is due back in Dallas on Saturday night,” Wings GM and CEO Greg Bibb said on a Zoom call with reporters last week.

“We will evaluate her over the weekend and then start to crystallize a time and plan for her and her return. But we expect her to be ready to go early in the second half.”

Dallas opens the second half on Friday with a matchup against the second-place Connecticut Sun, a team that the Wings could use a talent like Sabally to beat.

The Wings currently sit tied for last in the WNBA with a 6-19 record but are just 4.5 games back of the final playoff spot. That is a deficit that someone like Sabally is more than capable of helping a team make up.

Last season, Sabally earned the WNBA’s Most Improved Player award after averaging 18.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 4.4 assists.

Not only will Dallas be getting Sabally back, but the Wings expect that Maddy Seigrist and rookie Jalen Brown will be expected back soon into the second half.

Even though the Wings sit in a tough position right now, the second half of the WNBA season should bring lots of promise for Dallas.

Sure, the Wings won’t secure a top seed in the playoffs but if they can sneak in, Dallas is a team that no one wants to see in the playoffs if they’re fully healthy.
