Wings Overcome WNBA Record 19 Assists, 24 Points From Caitlin Clark 101-93 Win Over Fever Before Olympic Break

Wednesday Night was not your typical night at the College Park Center. The fans who wanted hours outside to see Caitlin Clark did not leave disappointed as the WNBA superstar dropped 24 points and the all-time WNBA record 19 assists.

After a player has a game like that, most of the time all of the headlines are about them but the Wings played a near-perfect offensive game to take a 101-93 win to go into the Olympic Break.

“It was just an overall great game; I just know that we did really really well and I’m really proud of them”. Head Coach Latricia Trammell said after the game.

The two teams came out of the gates trading buckets as the Wings led 16-11 midway through the first quarter. Dallas started out shooting 58.3% from the field and 68.% from deep.

After the opening frame, Dallas continued its hot shooting and held a 27-20 lead.

In the first three minutes of the second quarter, the Wings went on a 7-0 run to pull ahead 36-22.

Dallas would ride that momentum to a 54-46 lead at the break. For the Wings, it was their highest-scoring first half of the season as they shot 57.5% from the field and 40% from deep in the half.

Odyssey Sims (17) and Arike Ogunbowale (14) led the way for the Wings.

The 3rd quarter was much of a back-and-forth one as the two teams traded haymakers that eventually led to Indiana tying the game.

Jacy Sheldon knocked down a three-pointer with 4:21 left to go in the quarter to give Dallas the lead back.

With 1:25 to go in the 3rd, Caitlin Clark drove in and finished to give the Fever their first lead of the night at 69-68.

A personal four-point run from Arike Ogunbowale helped the Wings regain the lead 72-70 after three quarters.

Catlin Clark continued her strong game to begin the fourth by helping Indiana jump out to their biggest lead of the game in the fourth quarter.

However, back-to-back buckets in the fourth quarter by Kalani Brown tied the game up at 82 with 5:49 to go and forced a Fever timeout.

The rest of the game would be a back-and-forth battle that produced easily the most exciting game the Wings have played all season.

Up by two with less than a minute to go and a second left on the shot clock, Arike Ogunbowale threw up a wild shot and knocked it down to push the Wings lead to 97-93 with 44 seconds left.

“I don’t know, not much breaking down” Ogunbowle said after the game “We had one second left and I had to get the shot up there and it went in”.

Following that basket, Dallas would get a huge steal out of the hands of Catlin Clark to seal the deal in this one.

The Wings needed to be nearly perfect on the offensive end tonight if they wanted to win this one and they practically were.

Dallas shot 51.3% from the field and 45% from deep in what was easily their best shooting night of the season.

Odyssey Sims and Arike Ogunbowale both contributed 24 points as Dallas had all five starters and Kalani Brown into double digits.

“That’s one of the things of just going out on a win,” Latrica Trammell said “ I told the team after the game, let’s go and build on this, let’s reset, take some time for ourselves and come back for that second half of training camp I’m gonna call it and then make a really big push”.
