Wings Name Curt Miller Franchise’s First Ever GM

The Dallas Wings have hired their first-ever general manager in the team’s nine-year history in DFW.

Dallas announced Friday morning that longtime WNBA coach Curt Miller has been hired as the team’s general manager and president of basketball operations.

“Curt Miller is a proven winner with deep experience building and leading WNBA rosters and staffs,” Wings president and CEO Greg Bibb said.

“I believe Curt’s ability to construct winning teams as well as his success in coaching in the WNBA and beyond will prove invaluable for our organization as we continue our pursuit of a WNBA championship.”

Miller is a two-time WNBA coach of the year leading the Connecticut Sun to the playoffs six years in a row from 2019-2022 including two finals appearances.

Last season, Miller was the head coach of the Los Angeles Sparks in what ended up as the final of his two seasons at the helm in the City Of Angels.

“The potential of the Dallas Wings is immeasurable,” Miller said. “With a new arena and practice facility on the horizon, a talented roster which is impactful both on the court and in the community, exciting positioning in the upcoming draft, a passionate and loyal fanbase.”

Miller’s first task as Wings GM will be to hire a new head coach after the team let go of Latricia Trammell after two seasons.

Next up on the WNBA calendar, however, is the draft lottery which takes places on Sunday, November 17th on ESPN.

Uconn guard Paige Bueckers will likely be the number one pick and could fill a point guard position where Dallas struggled mightily last season.

The Wings have the best odds to land the number one overall pick thanks to not only having the ability to own their pick but have a pick swap with the Chicago Sky thanks to the trade that sent Marina Mabery to the Sky.

Miller won’t be the only one in the front office that is charged with making a draft board. The Wings also announced promotions for both Travis Charles to Senior Vice President & Assistant General Manager and Jasmine Thomas to Vice President & Assistant General Manager.
