Will the Packers add any Pass-Catchers this offseason?
To say that the first season with Jordan Love as quarterback went well is an understatement. In his first year replacing arguably the greatest quarterback of all-time in Aaron Rodgers, Love finished top-10 in completions, yards, and touchdowns. Most would say that he was elite.
The only other question on offense before the season started was how well will the young core of receivers and tight ends play with Love? The answer was that they played exceptionally. The likes of Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, and Bo Melton proved to be exactly the set of receivers Love needed to be great. Tight ends Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft weren’t too shabby either. But will Green Bay look to add even more weapons for their star signal-caller? It’s time to examine that question.
Why Green Bay Shouldn’t Add Any More Help
Simply put, the Packers might not need to add any more pass-catchers for Love. Romeo Doubs improved in every major statistical category, including touchdown catches (8; T-4th most in the NFL). Christian Watson, despite battling injuries again, had both a better yards-per-reception output (15.1) and a better yards-per-game average (46.9) in his sophomore season. Jayden Reed became one of the most exciting rookie receivers (10 total touchdowns, 912 total yards). Jordan Love had a passer rating of 118.7 when targeting Dontayvion Wicks. Finally, Bo Melton, who wasn’t signed to the active roster until January 1st, 2024, caught 16 passes for 218 receiving yards over the last four regular regular season games.
Tight ends Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft were also special rookies. They both combined for over 700 yards on 65 receptions, along with 3 touchdowns. Together, they were fantastic and proved why Green Bay wanted to go out and add two rookie tight ends in back-to-back rounds in the 2023 NFL Draft.
The Only Position(s) Green Bay Should Address
The Packers might not need to add any more wide receivers or tight ends this offseason. But, they will be looking to add another running back or two. They could lose both Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon if they don’t play their cards right. With the recent news of many great running backs hitting the open market, perhaps the Packers could look into adding a Derrick Henry or Saquon Barkley.
As always, Green Bay will most likely be looking to add depth to the offensive line. Death, taxes, and the Packers making offensive line a priority in the draft are the three certainties in life. But in this particular offseason, don’t look for Green Bay to add any more pass-catchers.
