Will John Cena Break Ric Flair’s Record During His Retirement Tour?
John Cena will wrestle a lot in 2025 as he wraps up an amazing career. Many wrestlers would like to face him in the ring for the first time … or one more time.
One big question is: Will Cena’s final trip around the wrestling world include a 17th World title?
Cena is currently tied with Ric Flair with 16 World championships.
Records are made to be broken, as Gunther showed this year by breaking The Honky Tonk Man’s 35-year run as the longest-reigning Intercontinental champion.
Who will wrestle Cena during his final run? Four of his top opponents from the past include:
· CM Punk: They had a classic match at Money in the Bank 2011, when Punk won the WWE title and left the company.
· Brock Lesnar: Cena lost to Lesnar in a WWE title match at Backlash 2003 but defeated him in a wild brawl at Extreme Rules 2012.
· Randy Orton: He faced Cena in several big matches, including a World title unification bout at TLC 2013.
· The Rock: Cena’s battle with The Great One was billed as “Once in a Lifetime” at WrestleMania 28, but they did it again at WrestleMania 29.
Who could face Cena for the first time? Some tantalizing options include Gunther, Bron Breakker, and Damien Priest. Cena vs. WWE Champion Cody Rhodes or Roman Reigns would be huge matches as well.
WHO’S NEXT … TO RETIRE?
Goldberg also announced recently that he would retire in 2025. We’re not sure who his final opponent will be, but he did have a confrontation with Gunther last month at Bad Blood.
Hiroshi Tanahashi has already moved on to become president of New Japan. “The Ace” will have his final match at Wrestle Kingdom 20 in January 2026.
Meiko Satomura will retire after a 30-year career in April 2025. She wrestled in WCW in the late 1990s and went on to a dominant run as WWE UK women’s champion.
