Will Brian Daboll Be Back With The New York Giants In 2025?
The New York Giants fell to 2-8 this season following an embarrassing loss to the Carolina Panthers in Germany.
This is a loss that head coaches typically don’t come back from. So, it is fair to bring up the question of whether Brian Daboll will be back with the New York Giants next season.
It has been a back-and-forth topic surrounding the Giants and their fans.
Daboll made a quick first impression with nine wins and a Wild Card round victory in 2022 in his first season as a head coach. He was named NFL’s Coach of the Year for his efforts with a team that lacked overall talent. Now, that lack of talent has caught up with the head coach.
This is also a reflection of Joe Schoen and the job he has done building this team as the General Manager. Since 2022, the Giants have gone 8-19 over the last two years.
Many have blamed quarterback Daniel Jones and his lack of progression under center. At what point does the head coach garner some blame as well? Daboll took over play calling this season and the Giants have been one of the worst units in the league.
New York is currently 29th in the league in total touchdowns scored with 16. It is also 29th in yards per attempt and 28th in passer rating. There has been no progress made throwing the football, even with the addition of rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers.
Yes, Jones has been bad but the problem is, Daboll has not done much to raise the level of his team. This is now year three with this team and Jones has been there through it all. This might not be the match that Daboll wanted but these two have spent time together and there needs to be some production.
It is not about the team quitting on its head coach or not showing up to play. There are other situations that get a coach fired as well. In this case, it is a lack of victories, lack of progression, and overall situation within the franchise.
It seems as though Wink Martindale was the scapegoat last season. During the offseason, it was offensive coordinator Mike Kafka. Daboll took over play calling and this was thought to be a quick fix. Now, Jones is the major talking point.
There has to be a time when the head coach takes responsibility. To answer the question of whether Daboll will be back, the answer has swung toward no following the recent performance in Germany. The Giants will have to find a way to win a few games if they want to save their head coach’s job.
