Who Will Wrestle John Cena on his 2025 Retirement Tour?

Shawn Michaels and Ric Flair have had big retirement matches in WWE. But John Cena is doing something different.

The 16-time World champion has announced that 2025 will be his final year as a pro wrestler.

But instead of one big match, Cena plans to have a regular slate of bouts, facing a variety of old and new foes.

Let’s take a look at some of his potential opponents.

THE USUAL SUSPECTS

Randy Orton and John Cena have traded the World title a few times and have had many classic matches.

Cena and CM Punk had a memorable bout at Money in the Bank 2011. That’s when Punk left the company with the WWE title belt and put it in his refrigerator.

Sheamus made a name for himself by upsetting Cena for the WWE title in a tables match in 2009.

Seth Rollins had a classic triple threat match with Cena and Brock Lesnar at Royal Rumble 2015.

Lesnar also had a crazy one-on-one battle with Cena at Extreme Rules 2012.

The Rock and John Cena main evented WrestleMania twice, and another go-around between the two wrestling/movie stars would be amazing.

THE CURRENT STARS

Cody Rhodes and Gunther hold the WWE and World titles, respectively. If Cena could beat either man, he would win a 17th World title and break the record he shares with Ric Flair.

Cena could win the Royal Rumble and challenge for either belt at WrestleMania. That would be Cena’s third Rumble win and tie him with “Stone Cold’ Steve Austin for the record.

Roman Reigns is the most influential wrestler in WWE, so a match with Cena would be huge. AJ Styles and Rey Misterio would also have fun matches with Cena.

THE UPCOMING PROSPECTS

Bron Breakker is the two-time Intercontinental champion, and he would be a great opponent for Cena.

Carmelo Hayes could make a name for himself if he could score a win on the retirement tour.

NXT stars like Trick Williams and Oba Femi would love a chance to move up to the main roster and battle Cena.

Don’t be surprised if Cena shows up on Raw’s Netflix premiere on Jan. 6 and we find out his first opponent of 2025.
