Who Will Close Games For The Rangers If They Don’t Sign Closer?

The Texas Rangers have been one of the busiest teams in MLB this offseason.

From revamping their bullpen, bringing back Nathan Eovaldi, and signing sluggers like Jake Burger and Joc Pederson, Texas will have a much-improved roster in 2025.

Despite all of that, we know that the Rangers may not be finished with their shopping this offseason.

GM Ross Fenstermaker says the Rangers are open to adding a proven closer to lockdown games.

Front Office sources confirmed that the Rangers do still want to add a closer but are waiting for the market to go down which will likely happen once Padres LHP Tanner Scott signs.

However, let’s say in a hypothetical the market doesn’t go down and the Rangers are forced to stick with what they have at closer.

Who would close games for a Rangers team that looks to contend for a World Series in 2025? Let’s break it down.

For starters, we know that Josh Sborz will miss the start of the 2025 season so that rules him out for the time being.

Two arms were called out by name by Rangers President Of Baseball Operations Chris Young as being “high leverage arms” all of which are new additions.

Shawn Armstrong who was signed as a free agent is a name who could find himself closing some games next season.

Armstrong has been one of baseball’s more underrated relievers with the Rangers being the 8th team of his career.

Robert Garcia who was acquired by Texas from the Washington Nationals in the Nathaniel Lowe trade is another name that will be used in leverage.

Garcia is entering his third MLB season and has an X ERA in the 97th percentile and a barrel% and chase rate in the 98th percentile.

Chris Martin who is making his second stint with the Rangers has never been a full-time closer in his career but could be an option in 2025.

Martin is just a year removed from a 1.05 ERA in 51.1 IP with the Boston Red Sox in the 2023 season.

No matter which way you slice it up, the Rangers’ closer position is an interesting one coming into 2025.

With the signing of someone like Yates, Texas will be looking for one of their new signings to grab onto the closer role for a team that looks to make it back to the promised land.
