What We Learned From NFL QBs During Wild Card Weekend

Wild Card Weekend in the NFL is now in the books.

Teams had all season to show what they are made of and got their first chance to show up in the postseason. For some, this was the case. For others, it was quite the opposite.

It all begins with the most important position in all of sports — Quarterback.

Below, check out which quarterbacks stepped up to the moment and which turned back into pumpkins. We learned a lot about quarterbacks during Wild Card Weekend.

Jayden Daniels Looks Like The Real Deal

The Washington Commanders have been waiting for a franchise quarterback for years now and might have found one in Jayden Daniels. This is a franchise that has not won a playoff game in 20 years and Daniels was able to go on the road and deliver the fanbase something special. Daniels threw for 268 yards and two touchdowns in Tampa on Wild Card weekend. For the third time this season, the Commanders did not punt or turn the ball over. This all led to a playoff victory to continue a special season in D.C.

Many Questions Surround Sam Darnold

It was an unfortunate ending for the Minnesota Vikings. After starting the season 14-2, Sam Darnold and the Vikings turned in a poor performance against the Detroit Lions in Week 18, which was for the NFC North title and No. 1 seed in the NFC. On Monday night, Darnold struggled once again. He threw for 245 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He often held the ball too long, missed reads, and was sacked nine times. After a season that ended with 35 touchdowns and 14 victories, the question remains who is Sam Darnold and what is his worth moving forward? We’ll let front offices around the league answer both questions.

Why Does Justin Herbert Get A Pass?

There are many quarterbacks who get criticism year in and year out for not performing in the postseason. But we all seem to forget about a quarterback that struggles to even get there and was not good on Saturday afternoon. Justin Herbert came into the league and threw 69 touchdowns in his first two years. Maybe this is what blinded football fans. With Jim Harbaugh as head coach this season, Herbert was able to get to the postseason while throwing just three interceptions all season long. Well, he threw four against the Houston Texans while completing just 43.8% of his passes — but there is not much being discussed. Herbert might continue to get a pass but should not for much longer.

Is Jalen Hurts Healthy?

Was it the play calling or is Jalen Hurts still hazy after missing time with a concussion. Hurts suffered an injury on Dec. 22 against Washington before returning nearly one month later in the Wild Card round. The Eagles’ offense was held down for much of the contest, leading just 10-0 at halftime thanks to a fumble on the opening kickoff set the team up in scoring range. Hurts threw for just 131 yards in the win but had two touchdowns and no interceptions. With a ground game led by Saquon Barkley and an All-Pro offensive line, Hurts might not be asked to do too much moving forward.

Jordan Love Has 180-Experience

Remember when Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers went to Dallas and dominated on Wild Card Weekend just one year ago? Love threw for 272 yards and three touchdowns as the team put up 48 points. Sunday afternoon was a much-different experience. Love was seeing ghosts against the elite defense of the Eagles, throwing for just 212 yards with no touchdowns and three interceptions. Love has been the full-time starter for just two years now. He was paid off one season in 2023-24 and now the Packers have to live with the consequences.
