What did I get wrong about the 2024 Cleveland Browns?

After the 2023 playoff season for the Cleveland Browns, many Cleveland Browns fans were optimistic about the 2024 season. The optimism was based on the level of success the team achieved despite the injuries sustained by the roster in 2023. Browns fans, reporters, and podcasters realistically felt that when the team gets healthy, they should be in the playoffs. But that didn’t happen, and the team is coming off their week 10 bye with a 2-7 record. The questions that need be asked is what did I and everyone else get wrong and what happened?

To start with the lamentation of this season we must go back to training camp, they Browns started with injuries from 2023 that carried over into 2024. The offensive line wasn’t healthy until week 8 at home against Baltimore. In Las Vegas against the Raiders the Browns were down to their 4th string center. That along with key players aging showed that running back what we had in 2023 wasn’t getting the same result. Wide receiver Amari Cooper’s production fell off in 2024 prior to trading him to Buffalo for a third-round pick. Quarterback Deshaun Watson was not playing well either. It seemed like a perfect storm of bad luck and circumstance to doom this season for the Cleveland Browns. The next question is where do we go from here?

I think all of us can be better at what we do including the Browns. There are 8 games left in 2024 and let us evaluate what we have on the team to build for the future. I don’t see a complete rebuild of this roster and organization.  I see a pivot on the plan with Watson. Watson’s career might over in pro football. Life for Cleveland Browns and their fans will go on and so will the NFL.  We must learn from our mistakes and get better from it. Otherwise, the cycle of losing and rebuilding will repeat itself.
