Weekly NFL Picks Against the Spread, Week 2
Week 1 is over, and it’s time to move on to Week 2. While my performance wasn’t the greatest, I’m going to ask for some grace—it was only Week 1 after all. If you don’t already follow me (@cardiacchase) or my show, The Linc Lineup (@thelinclineup), on X, you’re missing out. And here’s a little incentive for you: If I finish the season below .500, I’m giving away a free jersey! The best part? You don’t even have to be an Eagles fan to enter!
Now that we’ve got that out of the way, I’m writing this on Thursday before the TNF game, so the spreads I’m going with are the ones I see right now. No, I won’t be changing my picks even if something crazy happens. Now, let’s get into Week 2 of the NFL and make some picks against the spread (ATS).
BILLS @ DOLPHINS (-2.5)
The Week 2 slate kicks off in Miami, and while I think this is a good matchup, I worry about the Bills. The biggest question for me is: Who will emerge as the top receiving option for Josh Allen? Dalton Kincaid is a talented player, but he needs help from that WR room. Plus, Josh Allen is taking a ton of hits, and the coaches are surely telling him he can’t keep doing that or he’s going to get hurt. On the other side, the Dolphins were explosive last week against the Jags, but only managed 20 points on 400 yards of offense. If Miami’s offense really gets going, this game could get ugly.
Chase’s Pick: Dolphins (-2.5)
SAINTS @ COWBOYS (-6)
The Saints laid it on the Panthers last week, but now they’ve got to travel to Dallas to face the Cowboys. My concern for New Orleans? Their offensive line. If you’ve watched Derek Carr throughout his career, you know he struggles against pressure. The Cowboys are coming off a game where they sacked Deshaun Watson six times and hit him another 17 times. If Dallas can repeat that kind of performance against the Saints, it’s going to be a long day for Saints fans.
Chase’s Pick: Cowboys (-6)
BUCCANEERS @ LIONS (-7.5)
Alright, I’ll admit it—I’m sorry for doubting the Bucs. Tampa Bay’s offense looked really good against the Commanders, with Baker Mayfield putting up 289 yards and 4 touchdowns. Baker is one of those guys you don’t want to face when he’s hot. The Lions, on the other hand, are coming off an overtime victory against the Rams. What I didn’t like was how they let the Rams get back into the game, and it makes me wonder why the line is -7.5. Does Vegas know something we don’t? Hopefully, Amon-Ra St. Brown gets it going this week, because they’re going to need him.
Chase’s Pick: Buccaneers (+7.5)
COLTS (-2.5) @ PACKERS
It looks like the Packers will be without Jordan Love, who sprained his MCL in last week’s loss to the Eagles. Stepping in? Malik Willis, who’s been on the team for less than a month. His career numbers aren’t too inspiring—he’s 35/67 for 350 yards and 3 picks. The Colts, on the other hand, have an exciting young QB in Anthony Richardson, who put up 212 passing yards and 2 TDs last week. The biggest knock on Richardson, though, is his accuracy. He missed a lot of throws on Sunday, and if he wants to be an elite QB in this league, he’s going to have to work on that.
Chase’s Pick: Colts (-2.5)
JETS (-4) @ TITANS
At this time last year, the Jets were without Aaron Rodgers due to that Achilles tear. This year, Rodgers is healthy, but the Jets are coming off a loss to the 49ers where he didn’t seem too comfortable. I’m chalking it up to Week 1 jitters, being on the road, and coming off an injury that sidelined him for a year. The Titans, meanwhile, had one of the funniest moments of the season when Will Levis threw a pick-6 and dropped to his knees in disbelief—social media had a field day with that one. The Titans lost to a team that didn’t even score an offensive TD. I don’t see them losing that way again.
Chase’s Pick: Jets (-4)
49ERS (-5.5) @ VIKINGS
The question here is: Will Christian McCaffrey play or not? Honestly, it might not matter. Jordan Mason looked like he can be a solid 3-down back for the Niners, and I doubt they’ll be in a hurry to push CMC if Mason performs. The Vikings looked good against the Giants last week, but I’m not sure how much that’s worth.
Chase’s Pick: 49ers (-5.5)
SEAHAWKS (-3.5) @ PATRIOTS
The Patriots shocked a lot of people with their win over the Bengals. Rhamondre Stevenson looked good, and if he gets going, New England could shorten up games and steal a few wins this season. The Seahawks played in a snoozefest against the Broncos, and honestly, I’m still not sure what to think about them. On paper, they’re more talented than the Pats, but something about this Seattle team just doesn’t sit right with me.
Chase’s Pick: Seahawks (-3.5)
GIANTS @ COMMANDERS (-1.5)
The Giants are one of the worst teams in the NFL, and while the Commanders aren’t too far behind, they do have more talent. I’m not quite sure why the line is only 1.5 points. This one feels easy to me. (Get used to this trend until the Giants somehow surprise me.)
Chase’s Pick: Commanders (-1.5)
CHARGERS (-5.5) @ PANTHERS
I’m not a fan of this Chargers team, but I’m definitely not a fan of the Panthers. Bryce Young looked completely lost out there, the defense couldn’t stop a nosebleed, and everyone hates the owner. It’ll be closer than their Week 1 matchup against the Saints, but I still think the Chargers cover.
Chase’s Pick: Chargers (-5.5)
BROWNS @ JAGUARS (-3)
The Browns had an abysmal Week 1, but it really can’t get much worse, right? The defense will keep Cleveland in most games, but Deshaun Watson and the offense have to provide something. Jacksonville’s defense is solid, but not quite on Dallas’ level. I can see Cleveland’s offense bouncing back a bit here. Trevor Lawrence always makes me nervous—bet on him and he lets you down, bet against him and you feel like a fool. So do the opposite of this pick if you want.
Chase’s Pick: Browns (+3)
RAIDERS @ RAVENS (-9)
Nine points is a big spread to lay down, but the Raiders didn’t look that bad. Gardner Minshew isn’t going to win games by himself, but he also can’t turn the ball over like he did last week. The Ravens, meanwhile, are loaded with talent, and I’m interested to see how they bounce back from their close Week 1 loss.
Chase’s Pick: Ravens (-9)
RAMS @ CARDINALS (-1)
This is the first time since 2021 that the Cardinals have been favored, and they’re coming off a solid showing against the Bills. Kyler Murray looked healthy, which is huge for Arizona. The Rams are fresh off an OT loss to the Lions, and they’ll be without star WR Puka Nacua, which is a big blow. Even though the Rams have dominated this matchup in recent years (winning 8 of the last 10), I think this will be a closely-watched game.
Chase’s Pick: Rams (+1)
STEELERS (-2.5) @ BRONCOS
Justin Fields will be starting again for the Steelers, and while his passing numbers weren’t great last week, he made the key throws when it counted. If Pittsburgh wants to win with Fields, they’ll need help from the run game. Najee Harris is a big back who’s tough to bring down once he gets going. The Broncos, meanwhile, didn’t look great. Bo Nix didn’t impress me, and their RB room needs to get going for Denver to have a chance.
Chase’s Pick: Steelers (-2.5)
BENGALS @ CHIEFS (-5.5)
The Bengals are coming off one of the worst Week 1 performances, and they were 9-point favorites against the Patriots! To make matters worse, Tee Higgins looks doubtful, and rumors about Joe Burrow’s wrist don’t sound promising. The Chiefs, on the other hand, survived a tough test against the Ravens and looked pretty good. Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice look like a solid 1-2 punch at WR, and we all know what Travis Kelce can do.
Chase’s Pick: Chiefs (-5.5)
BEARS @ TEXANS (-6.5)
Two young QBs will battle it out on Sunday Night Football. Unfortunately for the Bears, they might be without two of their top three WRs, which could seriously impact their offensive game plan. C.J. Stroud looked promising in his debut against the Colts, and the Texans’ offense is shaping up well. Defensively, the Texans are solid under head coach DeMeco Ryans. On the other hand, the Bears’ offense struggled last week and might find it tough to keep pace. With Rome Odunze and Keenan Allen both on the injury report, their absence could make things even harder for the Bears.
Chase’s Pick: Texans (-6.5)
FALCONS @ EAGLES (-6.5)
On Monday night, Super Bowl hero Nick Foles will officially retire as an Eagle and serve as an honorary captain, making Lincoln Financial Field a place of celebration. The Falcons struggled offensively against the Steelers last week, and Kirk Cousins didn’t look quite right, which is understandable given his recovery from a major Achilles injury. Beyond Cousins, the Falcons’ offense had trouble getting going. The Eagles, with their high-powered offense, should be able to exploit these weaknesses. The matchup will be tough for the Falcons, and it’s up to Cousins and his team to turn things around if they want a chance against the Eagles. Given the Eagles’ firepower and home-field advantage, they should come out on top.
Chase’s Pick: Eagles (-6.5)
ATS Record This Season: 8-7-1
