Weekend Wrestling Wrap-up: WWE Smackdown and AEW Collision
Tiffany Stratton and The Bloodline were the star players on WWE Smackdown on Friday night, while The Undisputed Kingdom ran the table on AEW Collision.
SMACKDOWN
Stratton opened the show by showing off her “Money in the Bank” briefcase, only to be interrupted by WWE women’s champion Bayley.
Nia Jax came out to remind everyone that as Queen of the Ring, she would get a shot at Bayley’s title at SummerSlam on Aug. 3.
Jax won the opening match over Michin with the Annihilator sit down splash in the corner. That used to be Yokozuna’s finisher in the 1990s when it was known as the Banzai Drop.
Angel and Berto (of the Legado de Fantasma faction) defeated the makeshift team of Apollo Crews & Baron Corbin, who are both former US champions.
Speaking of that title, LA Knight wants it, and he called out Logan Paul for SummerSlam. Paul would be competing in his hometown of Cleveland.
Naomi remained strong in the Smackdown women’s division with a win over Blair Davenport.
#DIY (Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa) retained the WWE tag team title in a rematch with former champs A-Town Down Under (Austin Theory & Grayson Waller).
After the match, The Bloodline came out to destroy the tag team champs. Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton tried and failed to make the save, as the Bloodline put Orton through a table with the Shield Triple Powerbomb.
The Bloodline seems more dangerous than ever with Solo Sikoa as the new Tribal Chief and Tama Tonga, Tanga Loa, and madman Jacob Fatu doing his bidding.
Roman Reigns will have a lot to say about this when he returns.
COLLISION
Konosuke Takeshita opened the show with a win over “Dynamite Kid” Tommy Billington. He’s the nephew of the original DK, who was a member of The British Bulldogs.
After the match, Billington turned down an offer to join the Don Callis Family.
The Bang Bang Gang (Juice Robinson & The Gunns) won a trios match over London Lightning, Shawn Moore, and Michael Allen Richard Clark.
They claimed to be the trios champions, even though Jay White (not Juice) held the belts with the Gunns. Authority figure Christopher Daniels vacated the title and booked a future title match between the Gang and the Patriarchy, led by Christian Cage.
The Undisputed Kingdom started their successful evening when Roderick Strong defeated Dalton Castle in a battle of former Ring Of Honor champions.
As a result, Strong will get a shot at Mark Briscoe’s ROH title at the Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view on July 26.
Strong’s teammates in the Undisputed Kingdom, Matt Taven & Mike Bennett, already hold the ROH tag team title.
They won the main event over Kyle O’Reilly & Orange Cassidy with a spike piledriver. In the post-match brawl, Orange walloped archrival Trent Beretta with a monkey wrench.
Nyla Rose squashed Ava Lawless with the Beast Bomb. Later, Nyla accepted Mercedes Mone’s open challenge for the TBS title on the 250th episode of Dynamite this Wednesday.
In other bouts, Skye Blue feat Harley Cameron by submission; and Top Flight defeated Lee Moriarty and Anthony Ogogo of Shane Taylor Promotions.
