NFL Week 3: Picks Against the Spread
Last week was a rough one for me, but that’s the NFL—some weeks just go sideways. I have a feeling we’re about to get back on track, though! We’ve got some exciting matchups this week, so let’s dive in and try to beat the spread.
As always, make sure to follow me (@CardiacChase) and my show (@TheLincLineup). Remember, if I finish the season below .500, I’ll be giving away a free NFL jersey to one lucky follower!
Patriots @ Jets (-6)
I’m not sure why the Jets are 6-point favorites here. The Patriots have been a scrappy team so far, and Jacoby Brissett is doing a solid job leading them. The Jets, meanwhile, haven’t looked as good as some expected. While they have explosive players on both sides of the ball, this feels like a game where the Patriots will keep it close.
Chase’s Pick: Patriots (+6)
Eagles @ Saints (-2.5)
The Eagles opened as 2.5-point favorites, but after Monday night’s game, that line shifted entirely, and now the Saints are favored. The Eagles will likely be without star WR A.J. Brown, and the Saints are relatively healthy. The Saints also currently boast the best offense in the NFL, while the Eagles have struggled defensively. Still, I think Hurts and the Eagles can bounce back.
Chase’s Pick: Eagles (+2.5)
Chargers @ Steelers (-1.5)
This is a battle of two undefeated teams, and it could end up being a very defensive game. The Chargers’ offense hasn’t looked fantastic, and while the Steelers haven’t had much success with Justin Fields at QB, they’re still finding ways to win. It’s a tough call, but I think the Chargers come out on top here.
Chase’s Pick: Chargers (+1.5)
Texans (-2.5) @ Vikings
I like what the Vikings have done—they have some solid playmakers on offense and a strong defense. The Texans, meanwhile, are coming off a Sunday night win where they could’ve been more dominant but didn’t put the game away. I’ll take the Texans to cover, but I don’t think they’ll win by much more than 2.5.
Chase’s Pick: Texans (-2.5)
Broncos @ Buccaneers (-6.5)
This is my lock of the week. Yes, it’s a lot of points for the NFL, but the Broncos are just awful right now. Meanwhile, the Bucs are on fire. Bo Nix will have to show me something before I can trust Denver to cover a spread like this.
Chase’s Pick: Buccaneers (-6.5)
Packers @ Titans (-2)
A revenge game! Malik Willis heads to Nashville to face his former team. The Titans might be regretting trading Willis away after seeing how Will Levis has performed so far. I think Levis bounces back this week and puts in a solid showing.
Chase’s Pick: Titans (-2)
Giants @ Browns (-6.5)
The Giants are an awful team, and the Browns just had a “bounce-back” game last week. I’m not sold on Deshaun Watson, but I trust this Browns defense against Giants QB Daniel Jones.
Chase’s Pick: Browns (-6.5)
Bears @ Colts (-1.5)
I’m intrigued by this matchup. Anthony Richardson has the potential to be a superstar with his big arm and ability to run, but he struggles with accuracy. Caleb Williams has star potential too, but he has similar issues with accuracy. Both teams are coming off losses, so one of these QBs will have to step up.
Chase’s Pick: Bears (+1.5)
Panthers @ Raiders (-5)
As a Raiders fan, I’d be nervous about this game now that Andy Dalton is starting for the Panthers. Dalton should elevate the offense compared to Bryce Young, and I think the Panthers keep it close. Side note: I still believe Bryce Young is a great QB who’s just been failed by the Panthers organization. I can’t wait for him to get a better chance somewhere else.
Chase’s Pick: Panthers (+5)
Dolphins @ Seahawks (-4)
I don’t like this line. Even without Tua, the Dolphins have far too many weapons to overlook. The Seahawks barely survived an OT win against one of the worst teams in the NFL last week.
Chase’s Pick: Dolphins (+4)
Ravens @ Cowboys (-1)
I would feel better about the Cowboys if they weren’t facing a desperate Ravens team. Baltimore has all the talent in the world but has gotten off to a rocky start. Dallas will want to prove last week’s blowout loss was a fluke, but I’m taking the Ravens here.
Chase’s Pick: Ravens (+1)
49ers (-6.5) @ Rams
The injury bug has hit the Rams hard, with both Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua out. Matthew Stafford will have to find a way to keep the passing game alive if the Rams want to win. Kyren Williams is a good back, but I’m not sure he’s enough to carry the team. The 49ers are missing Deebo Samuel, but they’re still the stronger team overall.
Chase’s Pick: Rams (+6.5)
Lions (-3) @ Cardinals
This line baffles me. I think the Cardinals are legit. Kyler Murray and Marvin Harrison Jr. seem to have figured things out, and the offense is clicking. Their defense is solid too. Meanwhile, Jared Goff hasn’t looked sharp, and the Lions need to take the ball out of his hands until he finds his rhythm.
Chase’s Pick: Cardinals (+3)
Chiefs (-3) @ Falcons
I think the Falcons are better than people give them credit for. Their offense has weapons, and their safety duo might be the best in the NFL. The Chiefs are still strong, but without Isiah Pacheco, Mahomes will need to air it out until Kareem Hunt gets up to speed or Pacheco returns.
Chase’s Pick: Chiefs (-3)
Jaguars @ Bills (-5)
The Jaguars have had an awful start, and while there’s hope they can turn things around, it hasn’t happened yet. I doubted the Bills before the season, but Josh Allen has shown he can win even without Stefon Diggs.
Chase’s Pick: Bills (-5)
Commanders @ Bengals (-7)
I’m not sure the Bengals should be favored by this much, but it’s not my job to make the lines. If Joe Burrow and the Bengals want a get-right game, this is it. Jayden Daniels and the Commanders’ offense will have to step up if they want to keep this close.
Chase’s Pick: Bengals (-7) (not too confident)
ATS Record This Season: 15-16-1
