UFC 309: Jon Jones Retains Title, Retires Stipe Miocic
Jon “Bones” Jones added to his legacy as the greatest MMA fighter of all time last night at UFC 309 at New York City’s Madison Square Garden
Jones retained the UFC heavyweight title with a win over former champion Stipe Miocic on a technical knockout in the third round.
The champion celebrated after the bout by presenting the title to President-elect Donald Trump at cageside.
Jones has a record of 27-1, and that loss was by disqualification. So, nobody has ever really defeated him in the Octagon.
Interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall was literally waiting in the wings last night, and he should be Jones’ next challenger.
Miocic retired after the fight, hanging up the gloves with a 20-5 record.
(Fun fact: I announced Miocic’s second professional fight at the Moosin pay-per-view in Boston in 2010).
