True Freshman Caden Durham Grabbing LSU Starting RB Position After Breakout Vs SC

Survival was the name of the game for LSU Football on Saturday as the Tigers completed a 17-point comeback to steal a 36-33 win over South Carolina on the road.

During the season’s first two games, LSU struggled to rush the ball following a season-ending injury to John Emmery Jr and uncertainty in the backfield entering the year.

However, some of that uncertainty may have been answered in a way that few expected prior to the season.

True Freshman running back Caden Durham asserted his will in Columbia, rushing for 98 yards on 11 carries with two touchdowns.

“You’ve got to make people miss. You’ve got to break through tackles. He did a great job today,” LSU head coach Brian Kelly said.

Kelly rewarded Durham with the game ball and could be bringing more gifts this week in the form of playing time.

Prior to Saturday’s big win, Durham had just four carries on the season, all of which came in LSU’s week two win over Nicholls State.

When LSU returns to Death Valley on Saturday to take on UCLA, Durham very well could be getting a bulk of the carries.

For now, it seems as though the Tigers may have found an answer to their running back situation which figures to be an ever-evolving issue.

The Tigers running back room features senior Josh Williams, Sophomore Caleb Jackso and a true freshman athlete Ju’Juan Johnson but as of now, it should be Durham getting a lot of work.

Durham was a four-star recruit out of Duncanville High School in the Dallas area where he played despite being born in Oklahoma City.

In the locker room after Saturday’s game, Brian Kelly summed it up best during the game ball presentation.

“You know what else I love? Freshman running backs,” Kelly said, as he wrapped his arm around Durham.
