Top Rangers Coach Returning After White Sox Rumors Fall

There is a high possibility that one day, someone with as brilliant of a baseball mind as Donnie Ecker will become an MLB manager.

Fortunately for the Rangers, that day is not today, as one of the best bench coaches in the MLB will be back in Arlington in 2025.

According to multiple sources, Rangers bench coach and offensive coordinator Donnie Ecker is no longer involved with the White Sox managerial hunt.

This comes after the Rangers granted the Sox permission to interview both Ecker and associate manager Will Venable for their vacant managerial position.

At the time of this writing, Venable is still involved with Chicago which is presumably still early in their hiring process.

Ecker has been with the Rangers since 2022 when Texas brought in a whole new staff under manager Chris Woodward which included hitting coach Tim Hyers.

The role which Ecker plays is a bit of an unprecedented one. Ecker is officially the Rangers bench coach but he’s not second in line to the manager, that would be Venable as associate manager.

Ecker is also not the hitting coach, that would by Hyers but being the offensive coordinator, his mind is deeply rooted in the Rangers hitting philosophy.

There is no doubt that the Rangers don’t win the 2023 World Series without Donnie Ecker’s mind on the hitting side of things.

Despite a tough year in 2024, Texas knows that Ecker is part of the staff that can help bring them back to the promise land.
