Tigers Not Likely To Deal Tarik Skubal But Could Trade Another Star

If you’re a team that is gunning for a postseason spot in 2024, you want a pitcher like Tarik Skubal on your roster.

However, for teams like the Dodgers and Orioles who had high interest in Skubal, that may not end up becoming a reality.

According to multiple sources, the Tigers are reportedly not very likely to trade their ace at this year’s trade deadline.

With that being said, there are very rarely truly unavailable players but with Detriot having control of Skubal through the 2026 season, it would cost an arm and a leg or a team to pry him away from the Tigers.

The Orioles might be just about the only team who have the farm system to realistically meet the Tigers’ very high asking price but to see the two sides pull the trigger on a deal is highly unlikely.

Skubal is one of the top Cy Young candidates in the AL this season with a record of 10-3, an ERA of just 2.41, and a 4.5 WAR.

Despite Tarik Skubal not being very likely to be moved, another Tigers pitcher very well could be heading to a different city at the beginning of August.

Jack Flaherty is having a very solid season after signing just a one-year deal in Detriot this offseason following struggles in both ST. Louis and Baltimore last season.

In 17 starts with the Tigers this season, Flaherty is 7-5 with a 3.13 ERA and a 0.964 WHIP.

With Flaherty being on a one-year deal, the odds that he is dealt by Detriot are pretty likely.

The Tigers sit at 49-50 just 5.5 games out of a Wild Card spot in the American League and figure to have plans to compete very soon.

All that said, Tarik Skubal definitely fits into the Tigers’ plans moving forward which makes his trade possibility so unlikely.

Flaherty on the other hand, does not so watch out for him to be someone whose name is thrown around at the trade deadline.
