Thomas Harley OT Winner Lifts Stars Past Utah

The Dallas Stars three-game homestand is in the books and it was a perfect one for a team that very much needed it.

On Saturday night, it was a showdown between the Stars and the Utah Hockey Club for their first-ever meeting at American Airlines Center.

After a back-and-forth contest, it was the Stars who came out on top in Overtime thanks to a Thomas Harley game-winner.

The first period was as back and forth as the game was as both teams had solid chances but failed to convert leaving things knotted a zero after one.

Just 16 seconds into the second period, Jamie Benn finished in the slot from Wyatt Johnston to open the game scoring.

However, just over a minute later, Utah would tie things up thanks to Matias Maccelli finishing a cross-ice pass from Lawson Crouse.

At 10:30, the Stars would tie the game thanks to newly extended Oscar Back who was in the right place at the right time to see a puck bounce off his leg and into the net.

Maccelli grabbed his second of the game just minutes later tying things up at 13:37 for the game’s final regulation score.

In overtime, it was Jake Oettinger who made a huge stop on a Utah rush to spring the Dallas the other way.

Matt Duchene grabbed the puck and drove to the net but was tied up by a Utah player forcing a tight angle.

In the process of being handcuffed, Duchene drooped a slight pass for Thomas Harley who skated in and flipped one into the net to win it for Dallas.

“I thought tonight our best players were really good,” Stars coach Pete DeBoer said. “When that happens, you’re going to have a chance to win.

That’s from Jake [Oettinger] to [Miro Heiskanen] to those top two lines, all really good. You take those points whenever you can. We played a lot of really good games this year where we didn’t get points. That stuff tends to even out over the season.”

After a perfect homestand, the Stars will hit the road for a five-game road trip beginning on Tuesday night at the iconic Madison Square Garden where they take on the New York Rangers.
