The Cleveland Browns At The Bye

It’s the bye week and I think all Browns fans need a break. For me it’s “Redzone Sunday.” Cleveland is currently tied for the worst record in the AFC and the NFL with a 2-7 record. In the AFC they are tied with the Patriots, the Raiders and the Jaguars. The Titans and Dolphins are both 2-6. Tennessee plays at the Chargers Sunday afternoon and Miami plays at the Rams on Monday night. So where does Cleveland rank statistically, with draft picks and with the salary cap at the bye.

The Browns offense is ranked 31st in total offense (274.4 yards per game), 28th in passing offense (183.4 yards per game) 29th in rushing offense (91 yards per game), 28th in points scored per game (16.4), 17th in redzone offense (56.3%) and 32nd in third down offensive conversion rate (28.7%), The Browns defense is ranked 15th in total defense (328.2 yards per game), 12th in passing defense (205.7 yards per game), 14th in rushing defense (122.6 yards per game), 18th in points allowed per game (23.7), 24th in redzone defense (63%) and 3rd in opposing third down conversions (31.6).

After the trade deadline, Cleveland now has nine draft picks for 2025. One in round one (their own), one in round two (their own), two in round three (their own and Buffalos from the Amari Cooper trade), one in round four (their own), one in round five (their own), and three in round six (their own, Dolphins pick from their trade with the Bears, Vikings pick from the Za’Darius Smith trade). They’re expected to receive two compensatory picks (losing Joe Flacco and Jardan Elliott). If the draft were held today the Browns would pick third. Their primary needs are offensive line (tackle), defensive line, safety, wide receiver and hopefully quarterback.

For 2024 the Browns are currently $46,286,500 under the 2024 NFL salary cap of $255,400,000. https://overthecap.com/salary-cap-space estimates the 2025 NFL salary cap to be $272,500,000. As of now, Cleveland is $8,471,992 over this amount. The Browns will be able to carryover any unused portion of the 2024 cap to 2025. Additionally, Cleveland will be able to add back to their cap any unawarded player incentives and bonuses. The Browns currently have fifty players listed on their 2025 active roster.
