The Cleveland Cavaliers last week made a major move that went completely under the Cleveland Sports Radar. While the Cleveland sports news is being dominated by this season’s success of the baseball team. Or stories of the Cleveland Browns training camp and upcoming season being pasted all over social media. Cavaliers center Jarrett Allen signed a multiyear contract extension worth $91 million dollars for three years. The 26-year-old Allen solidified his future with Cleveland.

Allen was acquired via a 3-team trade from the Brooklyn Nets in January of 2021. He has played in 252 games with the Cleveland Cavaliers in the last 3 years. Allen has averaged 15.1 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.23 blocks in 31.8 minutes per game. He was selected for the NBA All Star Game in 2022. This move was one of several moves this offseason by the Cleveland Cavaliers to make a push for another NBA Championship.

In the 2024 offseason the Cleveland Cavaliers not only signed their starting center to an extension, but they also signed their top scorer Guard Donovan Mitchell to extension as well. Mitchell’s extension was for 3 years at $150.3 million dollars. Also, Cleveland was able to sign their sensational 23-year-old Forward Evan Mobley to the max rookie extension worth $269 million dollars. There is a great amount of money tied up in the Cleveland Cavaliers roster. The team’s front office had to be certain to have the right coach in place to lead this team.

After the dismissal of Cavaliers Head Coach JB Bickerstaff, the Cleveland Cavaliers hired Kenny Atkinson to replace him this offseason. Atkinson was an assistant with the Golden State Warriors since 2021 and prior to that he was the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets from 2016-2020. He does have NBA coaching experience.
