Ohio State Beats Texas 28-14 to win the Cotton Bowl
On Friday January 10th the 6th ranked Ohio State Buckeyes traveled to Arlington Texas to play the 3rd ranked Texas Longhorns in the Cotton Bowl at AT&T Stadium. Ohio State was a 6-point favorite in this game. The Buckeyes last game was a 41-21 drubbing of the top ranked Oregon Ducks at the Rose Bowl. The Longhorns last game was a 39 -31 overtime win over Arizona State at the Peach Bowl. The Ohio State Buckeyes have been on a roll since their 13-10 loss to Michigan on November 30th. Can that roll continue in the Cotton Bowl?
The Buckeyes took an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter. But late in the second quarter Texas tied the game with a touchdown of their own. Ohio State answered with a 75-yard touchdown screen pass from Will Howard to TreVeyon Henderson with 13 seconds left in the half. Ohio State led at halftime 14-7. Texas scored a late third quarter touchdown to tie the game 14-14. With 7 minutes to go in the fourth quarter Ohio State took a 21-14 lead on a Quinshon Judkins 1 yard touchdown run. Texas was driving late in the fourth quarter and had a first and goal to go on the one-yard line. After several negative plays Texas was facing a fourth and goal, when Buckeye’s linebacker Jack Sawyer recovered a fumble and returned it for an 83-yard touchdown. Ohio State led 28-14 with 2:13 to go in the game. The Ohio State Buckeyes victory was sealed with a Caleb Downs interception with 1:52 left in the game. The Ohio State Buckeyes went on to defeat the Texas Longhorns in the Cotton Bowl 28-14.
Up next for Ohio State is the National Championship game on Monday January 20th 7:30 pm eastern time, at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta Georgia. The only team standing in the way of an Ohio State Buckeyes National Championship is the 5th ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Ohio State has fought and clawed their way to this game. And at this point, I don’t think the luck of the Irish can help Notre Dame.
