My Favorite UDFA to Make The Browns Final 53-Man Roster

Looking at the 2024 Browns roster, there’s not a lot of room for all six of their draft picks. For the nine undrafted free agents, it’s an even harder task. Browns GM Andrew Berry and the team’s scouting department prides themselves on finding talent, no matter where it is. Both cornerback D’Anthony Bell and safety Ronnie Hickman were UDFA’s. Of the nine signed this year, my favorite to make the roster is guard Javion Cohen Miami (FL).

Cohen started his college career at the University of Alabama where he made the Freshman All-SEC list. In 2021 and 2022, he played in all but one game. He transferred to Miami in 2023 mainly because of the university’s coaching staff’s development of offensive lineman. Coaching turnover at Alabama was also a factor. He started every game at Miami in 2023. Cohen is a big man with long arms who is an excellent run blocker and one of the better pass blockers for an interior lineman. Because of his strength he can redirect defenders and can quickly recognize blitzes and stunts. Cohen has an excellent anchor to hold up against bull rushers.

He’ll need to work on his foot work, it’s very choppy and heavy. Cohen will also have to improve his speed at getting out of his initial stance. He’s stiff with his lateral movement and change of direction. Has a poor pad level which can cause him to lose leverage battles.

He was projected as a late third day pick because of his size, strength, hand placement and the ability to read defenses. In the NFL, he could spot start and be a valuable back-up. To make the Browns 2024 53-man roster, Cohen would need to be the fourth guard, if the Browns carry four. Competition in training camp will be the key.
