Cleveland Cavaliers Sign Isaac Okoro long term

On September 17th ,2024, the Cleveland Cavaliers announced the contract signing of veteran forward Isaac Okoro. Okoro received a 3 year 38-million-dollar contract from the Cleveland Cavaliers. Okoro was the number 5 overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers. This move shows stability for both Okoro and the Cavaliers.

This signing is followed by extensions of other young core players of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Donovan Mitchell, Jarett Allen, Evan Mobley, and Darius Garland signed back in 2022 are all under contract for the long term with the team.  These actions are showing a commitment to winning not only this season but for the future as well by the Cavaliers. And the Cavaliers have had recent success to build on in the last two seasons.

In 2023 the Cavaliers made the playoffs without Lebron James for the first time since 1998. And in 2024 the team won a playoff series without Lebron James for the first time since 1993. In the 2024 Eastern Conference Semi Finals the Cavaliers lost to the Boston Celtics after dealing with a lot of injuries. The Cavaliers organization believes that they can indeed contend for a championship.

As a team this offseason the Cavaliers major moves were retaining their current roster. These moves along with a coaching change can be impactful for the 2024/2025 season. Kenny Atkinson was hired this offseason to replace JB Bickerstaff as the Cleveland Cavaliers head coach.  Atkinson brings a more aggressive offensive philosophy than his predecessor. The organization felt it was time to make a change for this team to make it to another level in the post season.

As much as Cavaliers fans like to hope for another championship since 2016. The key will be health of the team. That and luck would be factor, and luck is preparation meeting opportunity.
