Cavs Sweep Road Trip, Beat the Mavericks, 134-122

On Friday January 3rd at 8:30 pm eastern time the 29-4 Cleveland Cavaliers traveled to Dallas Texas to play the 20-14 Dallas Mavericks at the American Airlines Center. The Cavaliers last game was a 122-110 win over the Los Angeles Lakers in LA on New Year’s Eve. The Mavericks last game was a 110-99 loss at Houston to the Rockets on New Year’s Day. Out for the Cavaliers were Isaac Okoro and Emoni Bates. The Mavericks were without Luka Doncic, Dante Exum, and Naji Marshall for this game. The Mavericks were also missing a familiar face to Cleveland Cavaliers fans. Dallas guard Kyrie Irving was out with an illness, and he was a former Cavalier and hero of the 2016 NBA Championship team. This is the final game of a four-game west coast trip; the Cavaliers have won the first three games of this trip. And they were trying to complete the west coast sweep.

The game started with the Cavaliers running on Dallas. And at the end of the first quarter the Cavaliers led 32-21. The Cavaliers kept up the pace in the second quarter. And at halftime the Cavaliers led the Mavericks 69-53.  In the third quarter the Mavericks played even with the Cleveland, but the Cavaliers still led going into the fourth quarter 100-85. In the final quarter the Mavericks did make a run, but the Cavaliers won the game 134-122. The Cleveland Cavaliers are now 30-4 for the 2024/2025 season and start the new year off with a win.

The Cavalier’s leading scorer was Evan Mobley with 34 points in 30 minutes. This win in Dallas was another team effort with seven players scoring double digit points. The Cleveland Cavaliers swept a 4-game west coast trip to add to this magical season. Up next for 30-4 Cleveland Cavaliers is hosting the 7-26 Charlotte Hornets on Sunday January 5th at 6 pm eastern time, at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse. This Cavaliers season has been special so far. How special can it be? Cavs fans can’t wait to find out in the post season.
