Cavs Strike the OKC Thunder, 129-122
On Wednesday January 8th at 7 pm eastern time, the 31-4 Cleveland Cavaliers hosted the 30-5 Oklahoma City Thunder at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in downtown Cleveland Ohio. The Cavaliers previous game was a 115-105 win at home last Sunday against the Charlotte Hornets. The Thunder’s previous game was a home win last Sunday over the Boston Celtics 105-92. Out for the Cavaliers in this game was Emoni Bates. Isaac Okoro and Sam Merrill were both questionable, Okoro did play but Merrill didn’t play in this game. The Thunder were without Alex Caruso, Chet Holmgren, Ajay Mitchell, and Nikola Topic for the night. This game featured the top seeds in the Eastern and Western Conferences. Many have said that this was a 2025 NBA Finals matchup preview.
In the first quarter Oklahoma City showed up to play and they led after one quarter of play 32-25. In the second quarter the Cavaliers fought back and led at halftime 62-59. In the third quarter the Cavaliers and Thunder played even, and after 3 quarters of play the Cavaliers had a 103-102 lead. In the fourth and final quarter of play, the Cavaliers were able to come up with big defensive stops and rebounds to pullout their 32nd and biggest win of the season, 129-122. The Cleveland Cavaliers are now 32-4 and they just beat the best team in the Western Conference.
Both Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley each had a double-double for the Cavaliers. Allen had 25 points and 11 rebounds and led the Cavaliers in scoring for the game. Mobley had 21 points and 10 rebounds in 35 minutes of play. It was another team effort for the Cavaliers with this win, they had seven players with double digit scoring. Up next for the 32-4 Cleveland Cavaliers is hosting the 8-28 Toronto Raptors Thursday January 9th at 7 pm eastern time, at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in downtown Cleveland Ohio.
