Cavs put spell on Wizards, 135-116
On Saturday the Cleveland Cavaliers traveled to Washington DC to play the Washington Wizards at the Capitol One Arena. The Cavaliers are trying to start their 2024/ 2025 season 3-0 with their second road game of the season. And their first back-to-back games in the 2024/2025 season. The previous night they defeated the Detroit Pistons in their home opener 113-101. For the Washington Wizards this was their second game of the season, and they lost their season opener to the defending World Champions Boston Celtics 122-102. Even though the Wizards were trying to win their first game of this season. They were outmatched from the start.
For the third straight game the Cleveland Cavaliers had at least 5 players with double digit points. 7 total Cavaliers players had at least 10 points in the game. That is outstanding offensive production. Guard Donovan Mitchell led the team with 30 points in 29 minutes. Power forward Evan Mobley had a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds in 32 minutes of play. As a team they shot with a 54.7% field goal percentage while holding the Washington Wizards to a 37.9% field goal percentage. Ultimately the Cavaliers topped the Wizards by a score of 135-116. Up next for the Cleveland Cavaliers is a major test on the road.
On Monday the Cavaliers will travel to New York city to play the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. The Knicks are 1-1 and won their last game against the Indiana Pacers- 123-98. For the last several years the New York Knicks have been a tough matchup for this Cleveland Cavaliers team. The Knicks have won 5 of the last 7 games against the Cavaliers. The Cavaliers are now 3-0 for the 2024 season. This fast start can set the tone for the 2024 / 2025 season. Let’s hope that the tone can be set in New York on Monday night.
