Can Will Howard lead the Buckeyes to a National Title?
In the 2024 College Football offseason, the Ohio State Buckeyes made moves to improve their roster. And one of those moves was acquiring Kansas State quarterback Will Howard in the transfer portal. This past week Will Howard was named the starting quarterback for the 2024 Ohio State Buckeyes. And Buckeye fans have a great deal of hope this season. Will this move by head coach Ryan Day pay dividends for the Buckeyes in 2024?
In 2023 at Kansas State Will Howard passed for 2643 yards, 24 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, and a quarterback rating of 75.1. These are good stats, and he has the experience to excel with the top roster at Ohio State. He would have to be better because the competition will be tougher. In the 2022 Sugar Bowl against Alabama, he had 18 completions in 35 pass attempts for 210 yards, no touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. His quarterback rating was 58.1. Alabama won the 2022 Sugar Bowl 45-20. His success at Ohio State will be indicative of head coach Ryan Day’s track record.
Since Ryan Day took over as head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes in 2019, he has had success developing young quarterbacks. Some say he was even more successful with quarterbacks than his predecessor Urban Myer. His most recent success was quarterback CJ Stroud. Since then, Stroud has started a successful NFL career in Houston. Also, the addition of offensive coordinator Chip Kelly would add more coaching credentials to the Buckeyes sideline.
The answer to the question of can Will Howard win a National Championship at Ohio State is yes. Of course he can do that. The soon to be 23-year-old senior is the most experienced and capable quarterback on the Ohio State roster. He also has the supporting players and coaches around him this season. The Associated Press ranked the Ohio State Buckeyes number 2 behind the Georgia Bulldogs. The AP must know the same thing we all know. They know the Ohio State Buckeyes are loaded this year.
