Buckeyes to Browns, Realistic Options

After every college bowl season, football fans project their favorite players from their favorite college team to their favorite NFL team. Buckeye fans are not different. Personally, I don’t care where a player goes to college, if they help the Browns win, then I’m all in. My least favorite college teams are Michigan (grew up an Ohio State fan) and Tennessee (I’m a Vanderbilt graduate), but if wide receiver Cedric Tillman (Tennessee) catches a game winning touchdown to send the Browns to the Super Bowl, I don’t care where he went to school. It has been projected that Ohio State could have as many as nineteen players get drafted in the 2025 NFL draft. So which of these players have the best opportunity to end up on the Browns roster based on current player rankings, where Cleveland picks and their team needs. I’ll be using Pro Football Focus for the player rankings.

There are four players that have a realistic chance of being drafted by the Browns, running back TreVeyon Henderson, offensive tackle Donovan Jackson, safety Lathan Ransome and cornerback Jordan Hancock (projected to be a safety in the NFL). Pro Football Focus ranks players according to their position. Henderson is the 23rd ranked running back, Ransome the 63rd ranked safety, Hancock the 150th safety and Jackson isn’t listed, but other services have him ranked in the top 100. None of these players will be selected with Cleveland’s first-round pick (number two) or their second-round pick (number 33). I’m looking more in the third round or later. As of now, no one has any idea who the Browns are selecting with their first pick. Some have speculated a quarterback because of the need, however this not a great quarterback draft and you don’t take a quarterback just to take a quarterback. There is a potential to trade down with teams desperate for a quarterback. The Giants at number three, the Raiders at number six and the Jets at number seven. If there’s a trade down, potential players available to the Browns at number three DE Abdul Carter, at number six DT Mason Graham and at number seven LT Will Campbell. If the Browns become enamored with quarterback Jalin Milroe, he has the best chance to be taken at number 33.

If the Browns trade down and take Cambell, then there wouldn’t be a necessity to draft Donovan Jackson, if the other two scenarios take place, then he could be available with the Browns pick 67, their first pick in the third-round. TreVeyon Henderson would be great value at pick 93, the Browns second third-round pick. Both Lathan Ransome and Jordan Hancock should be available on the third day of the draft. Ransome could go pick 167 (fifth-round) and Hancock pick 191 (sixth-round). As I said earlier, no team should know who they’re going to draft at this point in the process. All-star game practices, combine interviews, pro day workouts and private workouts will help to determine a team’s draft strategy. Browns GM Andrew Berry uses free agency to fill key position holes, and many questions will be answered when the league year begins on March 12. All I know, there are a few Buckeyes I wouldn’t mind seeing in a Browns uniform.
