Browns vs. Seahawks, Why Am I Watching?

I probably won’t watching, well at least not the whole game. A 10:00pm EST start for a preseason game is a little late for this old man. The biggest question for this game is will quarterback Deshaun Watson start and play a few series. That was the plan originally, however it was announced this week he is suffering with “general arm soreness.” I’m 66 years old and suffer from “general everything soreness,” so have no idea what this means. With the problems the Browns are currently having with injuries at the left tackle position, I’m not sure I want Watson to play. According to reports from practice this week, if these were real games, he would’ve been sacked multiple times. I’m now team save him for the season opener. I do expect the majority of the starters on both side of the ball to play.

After watching the game against the Vikings, I’m very confident running back D’Onta Foremen can hold down the running back position while the team waits on Nick Chubb to be activated. In game two, he showed power and elusiveness when both running and receiving. Back up Pierre Strong was injured this week in practice, so Aidan Robbins will get more opportunities. On defense, I hope defensive end Myles Garrett will play at least one series. The same goes for defensive tackles Murice Hurst and Shelby Harris. I expect defensive tackle Siaki Ika to play the majority of the game, he’s playing for a roster spot and isn’t impressing. At linebacker it will be good to see Tony Fields play, and I’m continually impressed with Devin Bush. The secondary is a mess due to injuries and I have no idea who will play at the safety position. I’d hold all starters out, just to be on the safe side.

As for Seattle, I assume quarterback Sam Howell will start. In two preseason games he’s 41 of 27 (65.9%) for 283 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions and a QBR of 102. He has been sacked four times. The Seahawks leading rusher in the preseason is Kenny McIntosh with 86 yards on 16 attempts, a 5.38 average. Their leading receivers are Easop Winston (five receptions for 78 yards and a touchdown), Laviska Shenault (five receptions for 58 yards) and Brady Russell (five receptions for 47 yards and a touchdown). The Browns defense in two preseason games has failed to contain running plays and given up large chunk plays in the passing game. Two things that plagued them all of last year. Hopefully there’ll be improvement. As always, I hope for clean game with few penalties and no injuries.
