The Good, The Bad, and The Spotty: New York Jets Past Jags, 32-25

In a game that served to exist for draft picks and pride, the Jacksonville Jaguars fell to the New York Jets 32-25. While the Travis hunters among the Duval Devout might be trembling in fear throughout the game, with this latest result their chance to see the Jags draft the Heisman Trophy Winner out of Colorado becomes further increased. Here is The Good, The Bad, and The Spotty.

The Good

In last week’s edition of The Bad, we talked about rookie star Brian Thomas Jr. as a central figure of the Jaguars offense who should get the ball before the 3rd quarter. Jacksonville had a 7-0 lead after their first offensive drive when BTJ caught a touchdown pass from quarterback Mac Jones. That score secured Thomas’ seventh trip to the end zone on the season for the franchise rookie record.

BTJ recorded his second 100-yard game of the season, his first with more than one touchdown, and his first with 10 catches. All that facing a team with Sauce Gardner at cornerback.

Rookie kicker Cam Little also did his part making all four of his field goal attempts with a long of 43 yards.

The Bad

As close as this game was, it’s not a hard sell that a play early in the game impacted the football game in total. When it looked like quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the New York offense was going three-and-out, a fake punt extended the drive to eventually make it a 7-7 tie after both teams’ first offensive drive. At the very least, we are looking at overtime in Everbank Stadium.

That’s right, folks. Jets backup safety Ahstyn Davis with a 21-yard run altered the future of the Jaguars franchise.

The Jaguars defense late in the game, however, was far too porous in the end. They allowed as many points in the 2nd half as their offense scored all game — and that was the most the “O” scored since before Halloween.

Everyone knows wide receiver Davante Adams and Rodgers have a special connection as a duo, but allowing a 71-yard bomb with less than 3:30 in the game isn’t the key to closing out football games. That being said, whatever world exists where linebacker Devin Lloyd is left in coverage with Adams is arguably more of a failing on defensive coordinator Ryan Nielson than anything else. . .  Regardless of the fact Jones throw two interceptions.

The Spotty

The Jaguars scored 16 points in nearly 37 minutes of play this week. That’s as many as the Titans and Jaguars scored last week — COMBINED!! Meanwhile, the Jets themselves DOUBLED that total.
