The Good, The Bad, and The Spotty: Jags Tank to Titans, 10-6

The Jacksonville Jaguars now have a disadvantage over the Tennessee Titans for the top spot in the upcoming NFL Draft. The 10-6 win broke a five-game losing streak in the league’s lowest-scoring game of the year. Here are The Good, The Bad, and The Spotty for this Week 14 edition.

The Good

While there may be an argument that this is as much a result of the Titans offense being inept as the Jags being compitent, the defense did their part in keeping Tennessee out of the endzone. That being said, it’s a bit disappointing to see edge rushers Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker turn in only one sack combined by Hines-Allen.

Rookie cornerback out of FSU Jarrian Jones did his part to pick up a bit of the slack by recording his first NFL sack by taking down Will Levis in the backfield early in the 4th quarter. He also had two passes defended.

The Bad

As exciting as it is to reference the song “Return of the Mac” as a way to lighten up the emotional woe the Duval Devout feel in Trevor Lawrence’s placement on IR for the rest of 2024, it loses something when Mac Jones throws an interception on the game’s opening drive. With Jones completing two touchdowns (including his first since 2023) there might have been hope for offensive production. That is not what Jags fans got — especially when he threw another pick finishing the game with two. Jones ended up completing 23 of his 31 passes on the day for 220 yards.

Yes, he’s a rookie. But any game where Jacksonville doesn’t get the ball to Brian Thomas Jr. until the 3rd quarter is one where I assume they had a slow start. After that initial catch, BTJ went on for four straight on the drive that turned into the Jaguars first points of the game. In the 4th quarter during the Jags next drive, Thomas had three catches in the drive that turned into the game’s first touchdown. One doesn’t need an NFL salary to point out that getting the most dynamic player on a squad is usually a recipe for success.

The Spotty

As much as some of us out there tried to bill this game as “Ridley’s Revenge”, he didn’t have a huge impact on the game production-wise until a 30-yard connection in the 4th quarter. This is despite the Jags trying to force-feed him in their first red zone attempt. With a chance to give the Titans a first and goal, Ridley ran out of bounds and instead failed a second time on 4th down inside the 20-yard line.

Ridley finished with seven catches for 59 yards.
