The Good, The Bad, and The Spotty: Jags Scratch and Claw with Packers in 30-27 loss

The Duval Devout were back in Everbank to cheer on the Jacksonville Jaguars who were hoping to string together back-to-back wins for the first time this season hosting the Green Bay Packers.

The Good

The defense started out strong against Green Bay. Jarrian Jones snagged his first interception as an NFL player to help make for a competitive first half. Punter Logan Cooke also booted a 73-yard punt into the coffin corner to help in that effort.

Late in the game, the Jaguars had only two active wide receivers on the roster due to injuries, but Parker Washington, Brenton Strange, Evan Ingram, and Tim Jones all did their part to tie the game at 27 late in the final quarter.

The big boot for Cam Little does it again bashing in a 39-yarder to make it 13-10 at the half. These three points set Little with the most field goals by a Jag through eight games with 12. He would increase to 13 by the end of the game making it 27-20 late wit ha 47-yarder.

The Bad

Jacksonville’s first four drives consisting of punt, punt, interception, and punt kept them from taking a lead into the second half. A solid effort by the defense that ended a nine-game streak where Packers quarterback Jordan Love completed two touchdown passes was minimized by not only stagnation (the Jags converted one 3rd down in nine tries) but also by giving the Packers points in the form of good field position.

Love leaving the game early with a groin injury is going to go here as well. For one, it’s never good to see a promising young quarterback get hurt.  Then to let “Music City” Malik Willis lead a team under center to score three times makes it even worse. Obviously part of it was Lawrence fumbling the ball at the Jaguars 5-yard line. This point wasn’t to call out just a defensive failing, but how many gifts were given to Green Bay.

Worst of all might be the list of Jaguar injured in this football game. The Jags were already missing running back  Travis Etienne Cornerback Ronald Darby, wide receiver Gabe Davis, Thomas, wide receiver Christian Kirk, and Guard Ezra Cleveland.

The Spotty

I know that all the Trevor haters out there are going to complain about Lawrence’s 2nd quarter interception. The pressure he faced on the play from the Packers interior defensive line wasn’t the most intimidating thing he’s seen this season, so it’s easy to blame the quarterback for throwing it to a dude wearing a yellow helmet. However, there are two things that are eyebrow-lifting on whether blaming Trevor is correct.

For one, Christian Kirk and Brian Thomas Junior are both in the area in the radius of the pass. Moreover, BTJ wasn’t looking for the ball when the pass came in. The play had a feeling to it that Lawrence was targeting his rookie hotrod receiver, but he was thinking the route was something different. Nonetheless, the result was Green Bay getting points from the Jacksonville offense.
