The Good, The Bad, and The Spotty: Jags Put Titans in Basement, 20-13

The Jacksonville Jaguars hosting the Tennesee Titans might be the most awkward game for the Duval Devout to consume this season. Over and above this being the final game at EverBank Stadium, the Travis hunters obviously wanted a Jaguars loss to help secure the Heisman Trophy winner at the half, but this impulse directly conflicts with the desire of Jags fans to clinch the Titans as the worst team in the AFC South. Well, the Titans are headed to the basement of the AFC South. Their depths explored might get Cam Ward out of Miami as a new quarterback.

The Good

For all the criticism that linebacker Devin Lloyd has gotten, it was special to see him reel in an interception. On a day when linebacker Ventrell Miller and defense back Darnell Savage are both inactive, to see him make this play is a bright spot. This was part of why the Jaguars were able to keep the Titans off the scoreboard for nearly 30 minutes.

Also worthy of mention for the defense is that defensive end Travon Walker has moved into seventh place all-time in quarterback hits in franchise history. This is an impressive mark considering he’s not finished his second year in the league.

Cam Little continues to light up the scoreboard as a rookie kicker. While his long thus far is 59 yards, his continued perfect streak of 13 kicks without a miss inside the 40 paired with him booting two more field goals of 44 and 48 yards in the game makes him a scoring force for his team.

Brian Thomas Jr. is obviously the Jaguars biggest offensive threat. He recorded another solid day with 91 yards on seven catches with an 11-yard touchdown. With quarterback Mac Jones throwing 174 yards passing and completing 15 of his 22 passes, that’s 52% of the air game going through BTJ. He managed to tie NFL Legend Randy Moss with the most games with at least 60 yards and a score.

The Bad

For all the flowers given to the Jaguars defense in today’s performance, seeing them let another late-game drive for points happen was probably the most frustrating sight for the members of the Duval Devout. It’s one thing to let former Jaguar wide receiver Calvin Ridley get them into the red zone for the second-longest catch of the day for the Titans. It’s one thing to let Titans quarterback Mason Rudolph run for a first down to set up the chip shot field goal with around 2:00 left. But to have a team captain and franchise defensive player Josh Hines Allen jump offsides for a fresh set of downs on your 26 with your opponent trying to take the game into overtime? That’s a new level of choke artistry that was only outdone by the Titans themselves.

The Spotty

While the retort to this is obviously that the Titans are that bad, it had to have been rough day for the Travis hunters to watch their Jaguars sweep Tennessee after Jacksonville was already mathematically eliminated from the postseason.
