The Good, The Bad, and The Spotty: Bears Blast Jags in Britain, 35-16

The Jags handled their business last week to beat the Indianapolis Colts at EverBank Stadium in front of the Duval Devout. The 1-4 Jaguars were suddenly taking the first step to a bounceback. Unfortunately for them, the Chicago Bears had other plans completely boatracing them, 35-16 to drop them to 1-5 and leaving them reeling once again. So now we hit The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly

The Good

The Jags held the Bears to two consecutive three-and-outs to open the game and scoreless in the first quarter. While Chicago was up 14-3 going into the half, Andre Cisco snagging his first interception of 2024 kept the game in contention heading into the second half.

Gabe Davis turning in his first two touchdowns as a Jaguars was refreshing to see after dealing with a shoulder injury during the week. Starting tight end Even Engram caught all 10 of his 10 targets from quarterback Trevor Lawrence finishing with 104 yards in his first game back from dealing with a hamstring injury. He’s now the third high Jaguar tight end in franchise history for receptions

The Bad

Unfortunately for the Jags, Engram also fumbled the ball away after gaining 16 of those yards he posted. Davis was also one of three Jaguars to drop would-be touchdown completions along with Christian Kirk, and Brian Thomas Jr. Davis himself was responsible for two scoring drops on the morning. Lawrence also threw an interception for the team’s second turnover. Late in the game, he would be eventually sat for backup Mac Jones when the score was out of reach.

Meanwhile, the defense was lit up by rookie quarterback Caleb Williams who connected on 23 of his 29 passes for 226 yards with four touchdowns while carrying four times on the ground for 56 more. Running back D’Andre Swift also ran it 17 times for 91 yards and a score.

The Spotty

People still critical of Lawrence are confusing. Of course, the team got beat so badly that Jones had to come in for clean-up duty at the end. While the starting quarterback’s S275 million contract extension justifies fans into asking for results, the problem that remains is that Trevor Lawrence isn’t the reason the wins aren’t coming.

If any quarterback isn’t being well-protected, receivers are dropping passes for points, and the offense is struggling to run the football, there is little a quarterback can do to manufacture a win.
