Keys to the Game: How the Jags can Edge Out the Eagles
The Duval Devout saw their Jacksonville Jaguars deliver what may be their most complete game, but it was unfortunately in a loss to the Green Bay Packers. However, the Jags having six starters who left the game and didn’t return to action was something that not only impacted that game but will cast a shadow on their trip to Philadelphia to battle head coach Dough Pederson’s former team, the Eagles.
Walker Little Now the Starting Left Tackle
During this week, the Jaguars traded their starting left tackle Cam Robinson to the Minnesota Vikings for a conditional 4th-round pick in 2026. Minnesota having just lost Christian Darrisaw to injury were desperate to replace him and the Jags had Robinson in the final year of his expiring contract and saw an opportunity to free up is cap space on the books while also gaining assets.
Walker Little has played a prominent role since 2022 when he stepped in after Robinson got injured and started a number of key games that helped Jacksonville get to nine wins and a playoff victory. The consensus on Little is that he is almost as good as Robinson in pass blocking while being of a higher impact in the run game. If the Jags hope to be balanced on offense to keep the Eagles offense off the field, Little’s addition to the starting rotation last week being made permanent might just be what the doctor ordered.
Parker Washington Starting his Revolution
While wide receivers Gabe Davis and Brian Thomas Jr. both left Sunday’s game early, the real tragedy for the Jaguars was losing wide receiver Christian Kirk for the year. Since Kirk’s arrival in 2022, he’s filled a leadership role for this team and has been as reliable as injuries will allow.
That means 2023 6th-round pick Parker Washington will take the field in lieu of Kirk. While there’s a possibility of Tim Jones filling in some for Davis and Thomas depending on how practice goes this week, Washington is guaranteed to step on the field and try to help provide offense in the air that can allow quarterback Trevor Lawrence to match pace with the Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts with his electric wide receiver duo of AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith.
As more is learned from who is practicing for the Jags this week, we’ll see how much pressure is about to be put on Washington.
Can the Jags D-Line impact Eagles backfield?
The Jags are tied for 30th in the NFL in giveaways just above the Tennesee Titans. That’s the bad news as they face a solid Eagles defense.
The good news is that Philly is 29th. If Josh Hines-Allen, Travon Walker, and Arik Armstead can get through and pressure Hurts, there’s a chance that the Jags can control the football game by putting some cheap points on the scoreboard. The problem also is that they have running back Saquan Barkley to wreak havoc on them as well.
The Jaguars defensive front will need the game of the year so far to help their squad keep it close in this one.
