Biggest Snubs from the Jaguars 53-man Roster
When there’s a gap before fans see “real” NFL football because the preseason games are over, they talk about the player they wanted to see make their team’s 53-man roster and didn’t. The Duval Devout are no different in following their beloved Jacksonville Jaguars.
Here are some of the biggest surprise cuts made as the Jags formed their final lineup.
Christian Braswell
Among the Duval Devout, Christian Braswell was the guy on the defensive side that everyone thought had punched his ticket to the roster against Tampa Bay. After stripping the ball from a Kansas City Chiefs receiver who had beaten him down the field after a misstep, Braswell took it 52 yards to the bank for a touchdown.

While a single highlight does not a resume’ make, the 2023 6th-round pick had spent last year with the Jags where he was put on injured reserve midseason. Throughout camp, coaches offered positive feedback on him, and at one point he was at the top of the depth chart. However, he’s become an example of how quickly things can change in an NFL training camp. Braswell still managed to creep into the practice squad.
Terrell Edmunds
Terrell Edmunds is a guy who has flown around throughout training camp not only defending passes, but to race up and lay the wood to slow the run game as well.
That being said, the biggest issue Edmunds is facing is the depth at the safety position with talented guys like Darnell Savage, Andre Cisco, Andrew Wingard (who is on injured reserve), and Monteric Brown. Should the Jags face the same level of injury as they did last year, Edmunds may still get involved getting called up from the practice squad.
Elijah Cooks
Last year was a dogfight for a roster spot at wide receiver just as much as 2024 was, and Elijah Cooks found his way onto a squad that kept seven receivers heading into that September. Cooks’ name pops up with the likes of Tim Jones and Parker Washington when it comes to the depth that the Jags have. That being said, Cooks was given opportunities to shine late in the regular season in 2023 where he played in nine games and turned in only three catches for 38 yards.

Unfortunately, that cold streak seemed to leak into the first two preseason contests when he made drive-killing drops. In the third game, he did manage to grab a contested catch for a score, but it seems this was too little too late. Cooks did eventually get picked up for the practice squad.
Tyler Shatley
An 11-year veteran at the position of biggest need for the Jaguars, seeing Tyler Shatley’s swan song season end early was something that came unexpectedly for the Duval Devout.
That being said, draft picks have been committed and trades made to develop upgrades at the guard position to protect franchise quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Additionally, the coaching staff seemed focused on building for the new kickoff rules on special teams and needed roster spots to commit to that. These factors led to Shatley ending his time with the Jaguars.
