The Chicago Bears’ Offensive Line Is Held Together With Twist Ties

This is no surprise to anyone. The Chicago Bears offense line has been abysmal this season. They have been one of the worst units in the entire NFL. They have been one of the main reasons why a season that was so promising at the beginning of the year has turned into the calamity that it is now.

They have just been AWFUL! When I watch this front-five try to protect Caleb Williams, it’s almost like I’m watching a collection of turnstiles at the train station. More often than not, these five humans up front are figuring out the most creative ways to let defenders go by. Whether it’s Coleman Shelton getting absolutely LEVELED against the Titans…..

Or….whatever this was against the Seahawks…..

This collection of humans just can’t seem to get it together. They have been a problem since day 1, and their inability to string together quality performances has lead them to giving up a LEAGUE-LEADING 67 sacks to opposing defenses.

The question that arises though, is what could be the cause of this inept display of blocking? Well…….

It could be the fact that we got these men from the bargain bin at Ross? It could be the fact that Ryan Poles decided to throw all of his money at the receivers and skill players on this roster, and none at the protection? I mean, there’s nothing wrong with paying the skill guys. I love Keenan Allen and DJ Moore as much as the next person. The ability to have top-notch pass catchers like those two really does help a rookie QB’s development run a little smoother.

HOWEVER…..how is Caleb supposed to get the ball to these men, if he’s running for his life all of the time? How is he supposed to make those rookie mistakes properly, and learn the pro game, if his main concern is trying to not get killed in the backfield? How? Please someone tell me?

It’s just astoundingly-stupid to me how the front office could’ve let this happen. How did NO ONE stop themselves during the off-season, and think to themselves; “huh….maybe we’re missing something here?” That is just WILD to me! It is just WILD that Ryan Poles didn’t think that one through, and even though he has made other big-time moves in his tenure with the team……I’m starting to wonder if he’s really the GM that we need?

I’m serious here; is Ryan Poles “the guy?” I get it; he brought us Keenan Allen, D’Andre Swift, and even TJ Edwards. He had that BIG TRADE with the Carolina Panthers, where he basically STOLE multiple picks AND DJ Moore from David Tepper. But besides that….what else has he done? And how can he overlook something as important as the O-Line?

I…..I just hate this team so much. If it’s not one thing, it’s another. Just like I said in my most recent article about the McCaskey’s; this team just likes to sell us a ‘bill of goods,’ and then pretend to be ‘frustrated’ and ‘upset’ when those said goods don’t work out. Sure, the roster they have now is VERY impressive. If anything, they are just an O-Line and a competent Head Coach away from ACTUALLY making noise in the NFC. But besides that, the “Monsters of the Midway” just CONTINUED their long-standing tradition of…..disappointing their fans.

Can they change things around next season? Possibly. I mean…..a blind squirrel DOES find a nut every once in a while. But before they can get there, they HAVE to address the protection problem. Strip it down to the BARE BONES, and give Caleb something to work with.

But in the end, what do I know? I’m just a guy from the Midwest, with a beer and a laptop, trying to make sense of this world.
