Texas Rangers Get Huge Comeback Win To Spark Potential Hot Streak
Sometimes, a manager gets ejected from a ballgame, not because of how bad a call is but to spark his team.
That’s exactly what Bruce Bochy did in the Texas Rangers 4-3 comeback win over the Chicago White Sox on Monday night.
It may not be an overstatement to say that the Rangers series against the White Sox could make or break their 2024 season.
Just eight days away from the trade deadline, the outcome of this series and the Rangers series in Toronto this weekend, could determine if they become buyers or sellers at the deadline.
Last night’s walk-off win didn’t make the Rangers shoe in buyers when the deadline hits next Wednesday but it was certainly an important step.
With the game tied at two in the ninth, All-Star closer Kirby Yates came in for the Rangers and proved that he was human.
Chicago shortstop Paul DeJong was able to hook a ball down the left field line to put a devastating blow on the Rangers and give the White Sox a 3-2 lead.
Following a huge double from Wyatt Langford in the bottom of the ninth, the Rangers were down to their last strike on two separate occasions.
Nathaniel Lowe worked a huge walk to keep the game alive and the next batter Jonah Heim ripped an RBI single into center field to tie the game with Texas once again down to their final strike.
Other than Wyatt Langford, possibly the biggest piece to this game was Jonathan Hernandez who threw a scoreless 10th inning and stranded the White Sox zombie runner on second to give the Rangers and chance to win it.
After a pair of two-out intentional walks to Corey Seager and Josh Smith, Wyatt Langford stepped up with the bases loaded and a chance to end the game.
End the game is exactly what he would do as Langford ripped a double over the head of White Sox left fielder Andrew Benintendi to win the game for Texas.
Don’t look now but a win like this has all the ingredients of being a win that could spark a season-saving run for the Rangers. Texas has now won 9 of its last 13 games and sits just four games out of first place in the AL West.
