Texans Trade RB Cam Akers To Vikings
The Houston Texans created some space in the running back room on Tuesday by making a trade with the Minnesota Vikings.
Houston sent Cam Akers and a 2026 seventh-round pick over to the Minnesota Vikings for a 2026 second-round pick.
Akers got some bulk carries in two games this season after both Joe Mixon and Dameon Pierce were injured early in the year.
However, in the second game Akers started, Texans power back Dare Ogunbowale got a lot of the carries in Houston’s 24-20 win over the Jags.
Akers had to fight to make the Texans roster with a strong preseason after coming off an injury-riddled recent history.
Last season Akers was acquired by Minnesota from the Rams before tearing his left Achilles tendon in Week 9.
The Vikings reportedly tried to resign Akers this summer before he decided to join the Texans in free agency.
Houston got back running backs Joe Mixon and Dameon Pierce for this week’s 41-21 win over the New England Patriots.
Mixon and Pierce will get pretty much all of the carries moving forward for the Texans with Ogunbowale getting the occasional run and stepping up if either Mixon or Pierce are inactive.
