Texans Sign LB Devin White
In need of help at the linebacker position, the Houston Texans have signed a former pro bowler to sure up the defense.
Houston and LB Devin White agreed to a deal on Wednesday as they take set to take on the Colts this Sunday.
White was released by the Eagles earlier this month after signing a one-year deal with Philidelphia in free agency.
The 26-year-old’s stint in Philly didn’t go as planned as White was inactive for the team’s first four games and missed their fifth due to personal reasons.
According to sources, the Eagles released White before the trade deadline so that he was not subject to waivers and so that he could pick his new team.
White was a star at LSU from 2016-2018 before being drafted fifth overall by Tampa Bay in the 2019 draft.
During his time in Tampa Bay, White made the NFL All-Rookie Team in 2019. In 2020, he led the team with 140 combined tackles (97 solo) during the regular season, with 9 sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and 4 passes defended.
In the postseason, he led the Bucs with 38 combined postseason tackles (27 solo), 2 fumble recoveries, and 2 interceptions, including a pick-six of Patrick Mahomes in Tampa Bay’s Super Bowl LV victory.
2021 saw White land his first Pro Bowl bid after a year in which he finished with 128 tackles and 3.5 sacks.
Houston signing White comes after the Texans missed both of their top two tacklers in linebackers Henry To’oTo’o and Azeez Al-Shaair.
