Texans CB Derek Stingley Jr. Named AFC Defensive Player Of The Week

The Houston Texans brought home some hardware alongside their 20-12 win over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.

Not only did Houston clinch the AFC South and their spot in the postseason, an individual brought home another award.

CB Derek Stingley Jr. was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in his career.

Stingley captured five tackles, two of which came for a loss along with two passes deflected and two interceptions.

Not only was it a strong day but it was a historic day for Stingley who became the first CB in NFL history with two interceptions and two tackles for loss in the same game.

In a star vs star matchup, Stingley took both interceptions while guarding Dolphins all-pro WR Tyreek Hill.

On the final drive of the game for Miami, Stingley impressively ripped a pass out of Hill’s hands to seal the game.

Tuesday night on Instagram Stingley made a post with the final slide being a lyric from the song SportsCenter by Bossman Dlow. The lyric Stingley highlighted featured the line “I run routes like I’m Tyreek”.

On the season, Stingley now has five interceptions. He becomes the first player in Texans history with back-to-back seasons of at least 5 Ints.

Stingley has now also recorded career highs in passes defended (17) tackles (46) and tackles for loss (4).

Houston will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Arrowhead Stadium when they take on the reigning Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs.
