Teams Should Look to Acquire Dodgers Depth Starters
In the most un-shocking turn of events, Roki Sasaki is a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers. It seemed inevitable and was fate he would land there and he becomes the latest star to join what many now see as the Evil Empire.
The Dodgers are going to be a very fun baseball team to watch. They have talent throughout their entire lineup that is must watch television. Their bullpen was solid in the World Series and should still be in 2025. But most notable, the Dodgers starting rotation might be the best put together rotation in baseball from a raw talent perspective.
There is never such thing as too much depth. Other rotations have that type of depth such as the Philadelphia Phillies. But the Dodgers have a boatload of depth, which now leads to teams should come calling and inquire about players on the outside looking in.
Players to Inquire About
If you are a team that needs another starter in your rotation, the Dodgers are the team to pluck from. Not everyone is going to see the mound, so there are players on the outside looking in.
Dustin May
Injuries have ultimately doomed his young career. But man Dustin May is a very fun pitcher to watch. The movement he has on some of his pitches is pure wizardry.
A reminder of how RIDICULOUS Dustin May’s Two Seamers are. 😳

May has only made 46 starts across five seasons and has pitched 191 innings across that same span. May made his most starts during the 2020 season. The sample size was much smaller, but May did finish the 2021 season with his highest K/9 with 13.70. There is optimism, as May finished with a 2.63 ERA and 0.94 WHIP in 2023 before getting hurt. The only concern is how he bounces back from his injury due to a lot of missed time.
May can bring the heat, having his fastball average 97.3 MPH. He had strong results in the sample size, with only one pitch having a batting average north of .200. May loved the cutter and the sinker for his put away pitches. He has the tools and the potential, it’s just all about how he bounces back from injury.
May is arbitration eligible in 2025 and a free agent in 2026. Teams could get the jump early on May, or just wait until free agency. But with little room to spare in the crowded
Bobby Miller
There’s something to say about the youth that represents the Dodgers rotation. Bobby Miller is certainly one of them. There was optimism surrounding Miller after a strong 2023 season. He finished with a 3.76 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP. Miller finished with 119 strikeouts, which was good for his first full season. He did plenty of good things in 2023. He was in the 80th percentile for walk rate and packed the heat with his fastball velocity.
Miller was able to mix in a wide variety of pitches and even had a whiff percentage above 30% on his changeup and curveball. As good of a 2023 as Miller had, 2024 was a struggle. Miller saw his ERA skyrocket to 8.52 and his WHIP rose to 1.77. The stuff under the hood was much to be desired. Miller was walking guys at a much higher rate, while not getting the strikeouts. Miller gave up a lot of hard contact and players were slugging north of .500 on each of his pitches. Miller was even sent back down to Triple A and given the state of their rotation was wild to think about.

Miller is arbitration eligible in 2027 and a free agent in 2030, so he is under team control for quite some time. He is the perfect young arm for any rotation that needs help.
Reality is, these two players are tremendous talents. However, they do not fit and if they want to be full time starters, they’d need to be on the move. The Dodgers have bolstered their rotation and for the better, which is why these two players should be looked into by other teams.
The Dodgers Bolstering the Rotation
In a way I don’t blame the Dodgers for adding in bulk to their rotation. Last year it was one domino after another that fell down in the rotation. Yoshinobu Yamamoto was hurt and didn’t return to the mound until September. Tyler Glasnow was lost for the year due to an elbow injury. Gavin Stone underwent Tommy John and Clayton Kershaw was shutdown due to a toe injury. They managed to win the World Series despite the injuries, but have made sure to have an insurance policy in the event that a starter does go down with an injury.
Each starter in this rotation could be an ace for most rotations around the league. With adding Sasaki, the starting five include Blake Snell, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow, Roki Sasaki and then eventually Shohei Ohtani will take the mound for the first time as a member of the Dodgers. There is depth, but teams should look to acquire the players on the outside looking in.
