Tarik Skubal Continues To Prove He’s The Best Pitcher In Baseball

Postseason baseball is where the biggest stars elevate their games in hopes of leading their team to a World Series title.

When you go 18-4 with a 2.39 ERA and a 0.922 WHIP in the regular season, it’s pretty hard to elevate that in the playoffs.

However, Tarik Skubal has in his first two career postseason starts.

Following six shutout innings in Game One of the AL Wild Card series, Skubal took the mound for the Tigers on Monday as Detroit needed a win to even the ALDS against the Guardians.

Skubal threw seven shutout innings allowing just three hits while striking out eight Clevland hitters in the Tigers’ 3-0 win.

It wasn’t until the fifth inning that the Guardians had their first base runner when Josh Naylor ripped a double.

After that, Skubal would run into some trouble in both the 5th and 6th but induced inning-ending double plays to get out of both jams.

Combined in his two career postseason starts, Skubal has thrown 13 innings and allowed zero runs while striking out 14 and walking just one.

It will be interesting to see the approach that AJ Hinch has with Skubal the rest of the way as a potential game five would come on Saturday, a start that he would undoubtedly make.

However, if Detriot fails to win game three on Wednesday, they will be facing elimination on Thursday when Skubal has just three days rest.

Baseball fans hope that Monday wasn’t the last time we see Tarik Skubal on a mound in 2024 but if it is, he proved a lot this season.

With a new wave of elite starters coming to the forefront this season, Skubal has proved that he is the best of the bunch.

The future AL Cy Young award winner has made his name known to baseball fans in 2024 and will be extremely fun to watch for years to come.
